EA engineer says 'the Wii U is crap'

Summerwill, who according to this Linkedin profile is a senior software engineer and architect at Electronic Arts, launched his attack on the Wii U via Twitter in response to posts relating to EA's current lack of Wii U development.
"The Wii U is crap," began Summerwill's multi-post outburst. "Less powerful than an XBOX360. Poor online/store. Weird tablet. Nintendo are walking dead at this point."

Summerwill went on to say that, "Nintendo platforms have always been very poor revenue-wise for third parties," claiming, "only Mario and Zelda make money," in reference to the historical trend -particularly on Wii - for first-party Nintendo titles to dominate software sales on its platforms.

Summerwill criticised Nintendo's hardware philosophy with Wii U when compared with its current rivals. "Sony, MS, Apple, Google all following the same playbook... standard, powerful, hardware, with focus on software and services.

"Nintendo are still operating like it's 1990. They should have 'done a Sega' and offered Mario/Zelda as PS4/Durango exclusives," he said, suggesting Nintendo exit the console business as did Sega after its failed Dreamcast console in 2001.

"Instead they make this awful console, and [Wii Street U]. Just stop it! Just make great games!" he pleaded.

Speaking more specifically about EA's present lack of Wii U development, Summerwill said, "Yep, we've got plenty of problems, but Wii U isn't where that family/casual market is. It's on mobile/tablet now.

"It is an utterly intentional decision to focus our resources on markets which actually matter... like mobile, and Gen4," he added, with 'Gen 4' being how some publishers are referring to the next generation of consoles (PS4/next-Xbox).

EA yesterday confirmed that it has "no games in development for the Wii U", delivering a potentially devastating blow to Nintendo's Wii U campaign.

Earlier today, an EA rep confirmed that there will be no FIFA 14 on Wii U because of the "disappointing" sales of FIFA 13 on the console. This comes after the publisher confirmed it will also not be releasing a Wii U version of this year's Madden NFL 25.

ExcHD The Gamecube/Nintendo 64 was so much better.. I guess all companies need to end sometime.

I think that the original Wii was also quite good and was a revolutionary concept and let to the development of Kinect and Move controllers. This Wii U didn't really create something revolutionary.

This is the same scenario as the Xbox and PS2, everybody preferred the PS2 over the Xbox and now everybody prefers the Xbox 360 as a majority compared to people who prefer the PS3. Anybody who grew up in the 90's or earlier has owned probably 3-5 gazebos alone. Nintendo is not a bad company, there are just a family based company who need to realise that Mario and Zelda do not sell enough to keep them in business anymore. Also ZombiU is a great game with really good graphics.



The WiiU is crap. It has so many bugs.

Rojo Nintendo, please stop making family type consoles, we need a console that can support high-quality games like battlefield or Call of Duty. Stop with the hand held consoles.


Not meaning to hate but Call of Duty is not a high quality game, they have next-to-no physics, the most complicated thing on that game is the range on weapons, the only thing keeping them in the business is graphics!

call of duty is a high quality game, the developers (treyarch and activision) cannot go any further with call of duty simply due to the consoles (ps3 and xbox360's) hardware. such as the processing speed etc. i'm currently playing on a xbox 360 which was made 5-6 years ago. my oh my its served me well but it freezes alot. not because its an xbox360 but because it is struggling to play some of the newer games. soon as the new xbox and playstation is released you can expect PC quality if not better games out. also back onto subject, i have never liked the wii, or the wii u or any of its handhelds. i think that there trying to aim the wii and small children and families which have time to actually use it but i just don't think it is working. i think what the ea engineer said about the wii is 100% true and they are going have to come up with something before they go bankrupt.

Then please, explain how Battlefield 3 has twice as much as CoD.

Congratulations, you can count. And if you actually owned the game, you would know this - One is for the campaign, other is for the multiplayer. What's your next come back? We can have both discs in at once?


I should point out that both games are made on completely unrelated engines. Plus physics isn't important in call of duty it's not needed. What do I need to throw a flash bang and direct impact someone off a cliff?


Exactly. IW can't develop a good engine, theirs is flawed and doesn't use the 360 to it's full potential.

They aren't going bankrupt ffs who the hell even said that? To go bankrupt you have to lose money,they are making money,good grief.... so the Wii U isn't selling as well as expected,neither was PS3 now it's overtaken 360,neither was 3DS now it's selling like crazy.Don't get upset,no one is going to take your XBOX away from you even though it's sold the least of this gen ;)
