Helldivers 2 is never going to let us take our capes off - at least without mods. That's according to a customer support worker, who responded to a player asking if developer Arrowhead would ever consider letting us go capeless.

In no uncertain terms, the player was told that there are "no plans" to let us unequip our capes, and "nor will there ever be". They argue that it would "not be believable in terms of in-game lore", since a Helldiver's cape is such an important part of their uniform.

This comes to us courtesy of Reddit user OHMYGODJC, who bravely took their request to ditch their cape to customer support, only to receive a definitive "no" in response.

"There are no plans to allow players to go around capeless, nor will there ever be," the reply reads. "It would simply not be believable in terms of in-game lore that Helldivers would be allowed to take off their capes. It would be like asking the developers of a Batman game to make Batman go around without his mask."

There is something of a silver lining: "Feel free to use mods to go around capeless like an anti-democrat, but do not expect us to ever do that."

You have to hand it to Arrowhead, it's committed to the lore. So much so that in a recent interview, it was revealed that the Helldivers themselves are actually under 18, since that's realistically what Super Earth would have to resort to in order to maintain its war efforts. Think about that while you're burning through reinforcements.
