The long-awaited update for STALKER 2 is finally out, but there are still performance issues. In fact, some fans are saying that the game's performance is worse than before. Despite today's 1.0.1 update bringing over 650 fixes and updates, new issues have arisen.

A thread on the game's Steam community details dozens of comments with gamers suffering from game crashes that didn't exist before today's patch.

One user states the game had never crashed through 36 hours of gameplay until today's update. Now, it's constantly crashing, rendering the title unplayable. Another says that after this most recent STALKER 2 update, they cannot throw grenades. Once they explode, the game crashes with an exception access violation error.

Some users have been able to remedy these issues with a couple of solutions. The first is to disable administrator startup, but the results have been mixed. As always, the best bet is to disable all mods for the game before booting it up. A second thread on the game's Steam forum confirms that disabling mods has improved game performance and prevented crashing. It's a shame, as the modding community has done wonders to improve the game's performance before today's patch. A new update for STALKER 2 was already noticed, with its most recent record update being 11:55 AM EST. The team is already working on addressing issues with the game's A-Life 2.0 system, but presumably, a hotfix is being developed to address issues stemming from today's update.

It's been a rough ride during development for STALKER 2 and even after release, as today's update shows. In addition to performance issues, the game is falling victim to Russian review bombing. Still, the problems haven't stopped the game from being a commercial success, having eclipsed one million sales in just three days. Then, of course, there's the fact that developer GSC Game World had to move from their office in Kyiv, Ukraine to Prague, Czech Republic due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Despite being rough around the edges, STALKER 2 has found a dedicated audience. GSC has demonstrated that they're committed to optimizing the game for their fans, and we don't expect it to be too long before the next update.
