Final Fantasy 7 Director Is Relieved They Didn't "Mess Up" The Remakes

Work is well underway on the third and final part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. And even with the second part, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, only launching this year, fans are already looking forward to seeing how the story comes to an end - something that's come as a great relief to the director of the original game.

As reported by GamesRadar+, original Final Fantasy 7 director and Rebirth producer Yoshinori Kitase touched on the third instalment in an interview with Edge Magazine. Here, he reveals that he's feeling optimistic about the "level of excitement" going into the next game, saying that it's a sign that the team "didn't mess it up".

"The level of excitement, expectation, and intrigue towards the third part of the series has been solidly built up," says Kitase. "So yes, I am reassured. And it's certainly a weight off my shoulders to know we didn't mess it up."

Various different leads and producers on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series have been surprisingly open about the third part, giving us some details about the game. For starters, we know that it should be faithful to the original game's ending, despite differences in the first two parts. The plot has already been written too.

We also know that the Highwind airship will play a major part in the game. More specifically, we'll be able to "fly freely around the map", which should make traversal much easier.

There's no word on a release window just yet, but that's hardly surprising since Rebirth only launched this year. If we're in for a similar wait between games as we had last time, then it's still a good few years away.
