No Man's Sky Receives 'Very Positive Status' And It's On Sale

No Man's Sky has done the unthinkable: recovered from one of the most catastrophic game launches in history and, nearly a decade later, achieved near-universal acclaim.

The exploration/survival indie game from developer Hello Games has finally achieved "Very Positive" review status across nearly 250,000 reviews on Steam. Over 5,000 recent reviews are labeled as "Overwhelmingly Positive."

No Man's Sky is currently 60% off. For more holiday deals, check out our round-up of Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox Black Friday sales.

For those unaware, No Man's Sky was revealed to the world during the 2013 VGX Awards, the precursor to today's The Game Awards. Its debut trailer promised an ambitious universe where everything is procedurally generated. Every planet would be unique, awaiting our discovery.

Upon release in 2016, however, that exactly wasn't the case. While yes, technically, every planet was unique, there wasn't always much to see or do on these planets. It doesn't matter how unique a world is if it looks and feels like every other planet, just with a different aesthetic.

Rather than throwing in the towel, Hello Games went to work on improving the No Man's Sky experience. They released the "Foundation" Update three months after launch, promising a massive overhaul of the game experience. Most notably, it included base-building, allowing players to feel like they're actually colonizing the planets they discover. It was a resounding success, and Hello Games wouldn't stop there.

Over the next year, two more updates would be released: "Path Finder" and "Atlas Rises." These post-launch updates would include vehicles, an improved storyline (something the original game severely lacked), and more. In 2018, Hello Games released the "Next" update for No Man's Sky.

At this point, it became clear: the past two years felt like Early Access; this was the game No Man's Sky was always meant to be. Gorgeous visuals, impressive vistas, and an impressive amount of meaningful tasks for you and your friends to do. This was the game everyone was hoping for when No Man's Sky was first revealed in 2013.
