From Software has said it’s not currently considering making an Elden Ring sequel.

Elden Ring director and From Software president Hidetaka Miyazaki discussed the studio’s future projects during an appearance at the PlayStation Partner Awards 2024, where the game’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion received the Grand Award.

“We’re not really considering developments such as an Elden Ring 2,” Miyazaki said, as reported by IGN Japan and translated by Automaton.

However, he also said the studio wasn’t ruling out the possibility of the Elden Ring IP developing “in some form in the future.”

Miyazaki, who is also the director behind Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls and Bloodborne, said From Software is currently working on several projects which are diverse in terms of genre. He is directing some of them, while others are being helmed by colleagues.

In an interview published in May, Miyazaki ruled out making a second Elden Ring expansion, but left the door open for a potential sequel.

He said the company would rather release one major expansion than split additional content into several parts, which would reduce the freedom of exploration and sense of adventure the game offers.

Released in February 2022, Elden Ring is comfortably From Software’s biggest commercial hit, having shipped over 25 million copies according to its developer.

This summer, Miyazaki said there was outside interest in making an Elden Ring adaptation, possibly a film.

PlayStation maker Sony is in talks to acquire From Software’s parent company, Kadokawa Corporation.
