Much of the gaming world eagerly awaits Grand Theft Auto 6, but some feel that Rockstar might not meet the game’s current 2025 release window. Shockwaves were sent throughout the industry when Rockstar finally showed Grand Theft Auto 6 late last year with an exciting trailer highlighting the highly-anticipated sequel’s characters and Florida-based setting. Since then, there hasn’t been any other Grand Theft Auto 6 footage released, so fans have been left to pick apart the existing trailer for further clues about what to expect.

The reveal of Grand Theft Auto 6 was undoubtedly one of the biggest gaming moments of 2023, and the open-world crime simulator’s eventual launch will likely prove just as monumental. So far, Rockstar has stated that the team behind GTA 6 is aiming for a fall 2025 release, and many other publishers are said to be weary of putting out their own titles at the same time as the future blockbuster. While Schreier hears that development of GTA 6 is on schedule, he personally feels that Rockstar will ultimately delay the game until 2026 and would be “shocked” if it indeed launches next year. He cited Rockstar’s history of delaying big projects like Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, both of which were pushed back multiple times before finally releasing to critical acclaim.

Of course, this is purely speculation on the part of Jason Schreier, who admits that by all accounts, Rockstar is still on track with developing Grand Theft Auto 6 for its planned 2025 launch window. On the other hand, there are plenty of potential factors that could come up between now and that launch window that could end up pushing GTA 6’s highly anticipated launch into 2026. Rockstar has taken care not to give an exact release date until it is absolutely certain that it can be met.

What can be counted on for sure is that when Grand Theft Auto 6 does come out, it will be one of the biggest releases of all time. The mere announcement of the game set the gaming world alight and led to the reveal trailer breaking viewership records across social media, with fans still eager to hear more about Rockstar’s next open-world crime extravaganza.
