Tiny Tina's Wonderlands 2 Has Been Cancelled, Suggests Report

A report from MP1st suggests that Tiny Tina's Wonderlands 2 has been cancelled. According to the outlet's source, the sequel to the 2022 Borderlands spin-off developed by Lost Boys Interactive was cancelled at some point in recent months.

This is a surprise considering that Kotaku reported earlier this year that progress on both Borderlands 4 and Tiny Tina's Wonderlands 2 was good, with both titles holding "promise." It's been a transformative year for Gearbox following the company's sale from its previous parent company Embracer Group to its current owners, Take-Two Interactive. Considering the business relationship between Gearbox and Borderlands publisher 2K Games (a subsidiary of Take-Two), it's surprising that this deal wasn't struck sooner.

MP1st also provides some speculative evidence, namely the Art Station page of artist Bemin Jackson who lists Tiny Tina's Wonderlands 2 on his resume with the marker "unpublished." Now, this doesn't necessarily mean the project has been cancelled. If something is listed as unpublished, it could just mean it has yet to be released. There's not necessarily any implication that the project will never be released.

Other subjective evidence includes the LinkedIn page of Kelvin Ng, a senior level designer at People Can Fly who previously worked at Lost Boys Interactive. Ng lists an unannounced cancelled project as one of his projects while at the studio, but doesn't specify which engine the game was being built on. Another unannounced project specifies Unreal Engine 5, but the cancelled project doesn't. As Tiny Tina's Wonderlands 2 was being developed on Unreal Engine 4, this led MP1st to speculate that the cancelled project could be Tiny Tina's 2.

There's no official word yet from Gearbox or Lost Boys confirming or denying the veracity of these reports. There probably won't be any official word, either, as Tiny Tina's Wonderlands 2 was never officially announced.

As for the other game that was supposedly progressing well, Borderlands 4 received another trailer during The Game Awards ceremony. We got our first look at the game's playable characters and antagonists, all set against the harsh tones of Fontaines DC. The release window is still 2025, without any specific date announced.
