Sega Is "Talking About" Bringing Back Sonic Adventure's Chao Garden

Sega president Shuji Utsumi recently revealed in an interview that the studio is "talking about" finding a way to bring back Sonic Adventure's beloved Chao Garden.

As Sonic Frontiers showed in 2022 and Shadow the Hedgehog's long-awaited return has proven throughout all of this year, it feels like Sega has finally gotten a handle on what it wants for the Blue Blur. Sonic's had a bit of a shaky history in the past, but it looks like both his and Sega's futures are stronger than anyone could have thought.

As wish-fulfilling as Shadow Generations was, it's fair to say that there are still a lot more things that Sonic fans are waiting to see brought back in the series. Alongside Sonic Adventure 3, one of the biggest requests from fans is for the Chao Garden to make a comeback of sorts, something that Sega has seemed unwilling to do in the past.

BBC recently published an interview with Sega president Shuji Utsumi, which mostly focused on Sega being interested in launching its own subscription service like Netflix, only with games as the main focus. Utsumi called the subscription model "very interesting" and said that Sega was "evaluating" some of its options.

In the same interview, Utsumi says that he wants to bring Sega back to its former glory, while noting that the next game in the Sonic series will be "quite challenging" and "quite exciting". While the president didn't give any more details on the project, BBC asked him whether he was considering a Sonic Adventure sequel, which he said would take "some time" to match expectations.

Utsumi was then asked about Sonic Adventure's beloved Chao Garden, something that fans have been wanting to see return for decades. Very interestingly, Utsumi confirmed that Sega has been "talking about it", but that he can't "say too much", which suggests that something is being considered.

While it looks like we're a long way off seeing what Utsumi is referring to in the interview, it is at least a positive step to hear that Sega is considering bringing back the Chao Garden. With any luck, it'll be attached to Sonic Adventure 3 and the two things Sonic fans have been wanting for decades will be a reality at last.
