Xbox One will not suport current-gen gaming headsets

According to an IGN source, the new data port is indicative of a new Microsoft strategy to take control of the accessory market.
The new port means that current headsets by leading accessory manufacturers, including Turtle Beach, will not work with Xbox One.

According to the source, the propriety data port means Microsoft can control the production of third party peripherals with licensing and authentication standards that manufacturers will be required to meet.

When questioned on the subject, a Microsoft spokesperson said the company will share fresh details on how third party peripherals will work in the future.

"We are working with 3rd party headset manufacturers to create new headsets that will take full advantage of the Xbox One technology," the rep said.

Xbox One will come bundled with a new iteration of its Kinect technology. The hardware features voice technology which will allow chat both in-game and via Skype.

Everybody is bitching about backwards comparability when all you have to do is look at the Xbox 360 And Xbox One specs. The Xbox 360 had a standard DVDR drive and the Xbox One has a BluRay drive, therefore the games will never be compatible unless they are re-release in BluRay format.

ShadowBoltDashie I just realized something. If someone doesn't have a mic plugged in and has their TV loud enough so the new Kinect can hear voice chat form the game, someone could shout "Xbox Settings, turn off and then yes"(I just searched the voice command on how to do this on the Kinect)
It will just turn the other guys Xbox lol. The Kinect 2.0 is programmed to follow commands but you will have to be head to head with it.

It's all good, the s/pdif port is supported by astro a40s I don't think the 2013 with the new toslink input is supported, but just some simple modifications you'll have toslink to s/pdif

DJxReWinD Honestly every one is hating on the new Xbox so much and I don't even know why...... They did increase everything about the console including graphics and much much more. I believe that this will be a great gaming console along side many new different features, they are just trying to get a new variety of people to buy their console! As for everyone saying they are just going to switch to ps4 well what do we even know about the console really, just specs and that's pretty much it. What extra options will it have to compare to the Xbox one.... No one seems to be taking into consideration all of that.......... And have you guys seen any of the gameplay? I thought it was freaking awesome! And just to put it out there the only reason why I see that we have to get new mics are due to a new mic port and a new 3.0 USB port which even most laptops and pcs don't even have!


You do realize that the gameplay they showed was a pre-rendered videos and not actual gameplay right? They won't show actual gameplay until E3 probably. The headset thing sucks because I have the A50s from Astro, and I absolutely love them. Also my PC USB 3.0, most PCs now days have USB 3.0.


DJ you are honestly wrong in every way. I am a big fan of Microsoft but up until Bill Gate's retirement as CEO, so many horrible changes have been made. They have turned into greedy little ******** that want to dominate everything on the market. They are disallowing backwards compatibility with xbox 360 games (they said it was due to not having the hardware to support the previous generation of games which is a load of bull, you keep the same API *directx 11* and include directx 11.1 like how PC does it. They just want you to buy the same games to port it over to the new console with an updated API. Next we have this news of gaming headsets. I bought turtle beach x41's because frankly the Microsoft headset was **** and the money was not going directly to them nor was money being paid to them for using the headsets but now they are insisting we buy the headsets from a thirdparty member that pays license fees to Microsoft for headset use which is stingy. All pc's now a days have USB 3.0 and a new mic port is unnecessary since surround sound has not surpassed 7.1. And yes as babydangy stated, the trailers you have seen are all pre-rendered with extra lighting mechanisms and other spices to make it look even more realistic. Every game does it with their trailers, if you haven't noticed the differences in gameplay and trailers then you are as dumb as you sound. Yea they may have increased "everything" as you say but within another year consoles become obsolete and drag down the rest of the market due to inabilities with upgrading your console. It is a shitty 500 dollar box with 300 dollar computer architecture.


well the whole backwards compatibility thing is wrong seeing as the ps4 won't have it so if you want backwards compatibility maybe try the wii u? im not sure if it has or not. But I agree with dj, Microsoft has gotten a lot of crap for the xbox one simply because people like to hate Microsoft. it will have pretty much the exact same gaming abilities as the ps4, people are just freaking out because Microsoft wasn't focused on that portion of the box at the reveal event, even though they said they weren't focusing on games... and with babydangy I have a40s but I would assume that astro would have some connector that can easily be replaced on the headset since Astros are made to be upgraded


I just felt like quoting this so its really long.
But anyways this is some BS why not keep 1 thing the same so while people that have $500 headsets can keep them and so we do not half to wait for turtle beaches to break down the controller and take forever to make 1 type of headset which will cost a tone that the normal person can pay for and ya MS will take advantage of this they prob will change turtle beach to make headsets for us so, so far F** the xbox one which should of been called the 720 and there gay a** controller modifications.
