The recent comments by Final Fantasy producer Yoshinori Kitase last month that they should get the Final Fantasy games to as many players as possible heavily implies that non-PlayStation gamers could be getting one of the PS5-exclusive Final Fantasy games soon.

According to a new rumor, that's precisely what's about to happen, as Final Fantasy 7 Remake is said to be dropping not just on Xbox Series X|S but also on the unannounced Nintendo Switch 2 later this year.

This morsel of info comes from NateTheHate's latest podcast, where the reliable leaker claims that he can confirm that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be released for Xbox Series X|S and the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth hitting other consoles in 2026.

Obviously, this is unofficial news, so treat it with a grain of salt for now. This follows after Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi publicly stated that he wants to get the games out to as many players as possible. When you also factor in that Square Enix confirmed that FF7 Rebirth sales underperformed, then this rumor definitely seems plausible.

When it comes to the Switch 2 version, while Nintendo hasn't even revealed the new console yet, more and more info about it has popped up online, and it looks like we are due for a reveal sooner rather than later.

Given that Final Fantasy 7 Remake was released five years ago, the console-exclusivity deal Sony has with Square Enix should have lapsed, as these deals usually last for just 12 months. I mean, it makes a lot of sense to release it on other platforms since it should be a relatively easy port for Square Enix, and it also means they are opening up the game (and franchise) to new audiences.

While it's been five years ago, Final Fantasy 7 Remake's gameplay and graphics should still hold up. Perhaps we'll hear an announcement about Final Fantasy 7 Remake's Xbox port at this month's Xbox Developer Direct event? If not, the year is young, and there are still a lot of months left in 2025 when an announcement can be made.
