Apple announces 16GB iPod Touch - but with no rear camera

For the first time since the discontinuation of the 4th generation iPod Touch, Apple have released a 16GB iteration of the device. The new music player, which is now available for purchase on the online store, features a brushed aluminium rear shell, a 4-inch retina display and a front-facing FaceTime HD camera.

Notably, the 5MP rear camera, as seen on the 5th generation iPod Touch, available in 32 and 64GB capacities, is missing from the new iPod. The new device packs the same dual-core A5 processor, required for driving the high resolution display.

Apple have also omitted the "loop" lanyard hook as seen on the 32 and 64GB versions of the device, a useful feature that surely comes in handy with joggers and commuters alike. It is not yet clear why the company decided not to include it, given that the dimensions of the device are identical. The front-facing FaceTime HD camera is the same as on the higher-capacity models, squeezed into the 6.1mm-thin body.

The new 16GB iPod Touch is available to order now through Apple's online store - the company says it'll be on its way within 24 hours.

imgur I really don't see a need for a 16gb model, either 8 is enough or you need a lot of room.


Music and apps take up a lot of space though. Especially if you're one of those people who download apps and music like no tomorrow, then 16GB+ is needed.

I'm thinking this is more for the people who play apps and listen to music more than anything. But I thought they already had an iPod touch with more than 16GB?
They do when they originally released the next iPod Touch it came in only 32GB and 64GB and many people wondered where the famous 16GB was and they finally got it out but I guess they rushed it or didn't care enough to but the camera on it. It also could have been something they had to through out to keep a profit on each iPod Touch.

They have an iPod touch 32GB but it's a Gen 4.

NinjaWizard The back is the main used camera. I rarely used the front when I had an iPod.


I've never even touched the front camera, that's for like taking face shots that those Facebook people do ._. I hardly even use my camera on my iPhone anyway.


I think i have used the front camera of the iPod once and that was just to test it out. We don't want to be lumped in with the 'Facebook people' now do we


Why would you use it for then? It has no other use then that.

Those rear camera's are only good for those facebook people taking selfies :D

xD no I didn't mean it like that. I meant that a majority of people on Facebook take photos from like a face shot or with a group of friends. I meant in using the front camera a lot it would seem like you're using it like the people on Facebook do.
