EA eliminating Online Pass on existing games

As EA discontinues its Online Pass system for future games, existing passes are also getting the axe, making some content and even full games free, first on Xbox 360. Over the coming weeks, EA will get rid of Online Passes in its games, corporate communications rep John Reseburg tells Game Informer.

"As we discontinue Online Pass for our new EA titles, we are also in the process of eliminating it from all our existing EA titles as well," Reseburg says. "We heard the feedback from players and decided to do away with Online Pass altogether."

When the rollout is complete, EA Sports games will no longer prompt players to enter an Online Pass code, and other games will offer content for free, Reseburg says.

NeoGaf member MMaRsu compiled a list of Xbox 360 EA games that already offer free content once barred by the Online Pass, including a free copy of the original American McGee's Alice, Bad Company 2 VIP, Mass Effect 2: Cerberus Network, and more.

Same, I had to buy an online pass for several games but I still saved money though, since they're second hand :)

This is so awesome, I have wanted to get Battlefield 3 forever but I didn't want to waste the money on the online pass because Multiplayer is the best part of it now I can get it.

This is great as when you buy the game and have no code its shocking that you need to pay for more money to pay online.

It wasnt really a problem anyway because if you bought the game new then you would get the online pass inside the box


Yeah, but if it wasn't new, you had to buy it online, and that's BS. Finally they did something good :)
It was only a problem if you were a cheapass.


You don't have to be a "cheapass" to not want to pay extra for something that should be included always, like any other games.

I'm not saying that. All I'm saying is that if you're gonna buy something used to which you've already agreed it wont be playable online, then quit complaining. It is an EA creation, so shut your mouths and if you don't like it, make your own games, publish them in your own studio, sign a contract with a manufacturer, sell to various entities, and retrieve your profits. SO YOU'RE BOTH CHEAPASSES. Go buy it new if you want to enjoy all aspects of the game or just buy an online pass you cheapass.
