Xbox One requires online connection every 24 hours, at least

4.2
The Xbox One needs to connect to the internet at least once every 24 hours, or its ability to play games is shut down, a post on Xbox Wire says. This is for a player logged into his own console – if a player logs into his account on a separate console at a friend's house, for example, the Xbox One needs to be connected to the internet at least once every hour.

"With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library," Xbox Wire writes. "Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies."

This is the clearest explanation of the Xbox One's internet requirements since Microsoft's reveal on May 21. In a post it removed from Xbox Wire, Microsoft said the console "does not have to be always connected, but Xbox One does require a connection to the Internet."

Microsoft recommends a broadband internet connection of 1.5Mbps for the Xbox One, and suggests mobile broadband for those without access to an Ethernet connection. Xbox One has two wireless antennas, and a gigabit Ethernet port and 802.11n wireless.

"Because every Xbox One owner has a broadband connection, developers can create massive, persistent worlds that evolve even when you're not playing," Xbox Wire says.

MindJake Looks like the biggest advertisement for the Ps4 is the Xbox one.

They're shooting themselves in the foot, things need to change otherwise I'm off to the Ps4, probably with a lot of people.

You have internet, this does not and should not concern you. Stop crying

I'm not hopping on the SONY bandwagon yet, I legit look at every aspect of something before I hop on the hipster train and say "Ohh Xbox is gay now, lets get a PS4"

But in all honesty, Microsoft is doing some very unnecessary things. This shit about having to connect once every 24 hours? What if I live in an area with frequent bad weather and my internet gets knocked out for days at a time? (Which I do)

I've heard RUMORS, you have to pay a fee to play used games!? If that is true, I'm done. I'm not paying 30$ for a game like FIFA (My main game) or something if mine breaks, and then paying an EXTRA fee just to play it? No. Not happening. Might as well invest 5 or 10 more to get a new disc!

I don't want to be required/forced to have a Kinect, there's a reason I don't have one now. I don't want it. (Not sure if this ones a fact either, having to have a Kinect)

I haven't heard ANYTHING on the PS4, but just from experience with SONY products, I do think I'm bailing on Xbox. I've never had a PS3, but free play, a nice looking console, more people, I personally like that sound more...If PS4 is anything like the PS3 was with some improvements, I'm definitely not making the mistake of sucking Microsoft up again.

Just my opinion though, still undecided, not enough facts to compare yet.

Stealth Stop being babys about requiring a online connection. If you're online right now on this forums, I don't see how it would be a problem putting the console online either. They might right now sound like idiots and are being irrational, but this may be a beneficial when the console comes out. I don't understand how it might be difficult to have a wifi router at home, or a connection over 1mb. If your connection is under 1mb, it's time to get out of the 20th century dial up, and switch providers or research for other providers. If your going on vacation somewhere and want to play, PHONE TETHERING

Ignorance at its finest. Suppose there's a storm that knocks out your internet, or the internet company decides to do maintenance, or your router breaks and you don't have the money for a new one. Then what? I guess you're stuck without your Xbox One until the issues is resolved. And phone tethering can be expensive as hell, so that's not an option for everyone. ALSO, not everyone lives in town where good internet is available. I live literally 5 minutes away from the closest town and I can't get internet speeds over 1.5 Mb/s. I might make the requirement, but that doesn't mean someone in a different area will. High speed internet isn't available in every area. Whether you want to believe it or not, there's a lot of situations where this has the potential to screw you over. Even if it doesn't happen to you, it's bound to happen to thousands of people who are less fortunate than you.

It says 1.5mbs is rrecommended not required, and most providers will replace your router for free btw. i get a free one from windstream when mine breaks once a year.

That's true, but I didn't even get a router through my provider, they don't offer one. I had to go out and buy one. And even if they do replace it, it might take a day or two. It just seems stupid and unnecessary to have this requirement with all the problems it could cause. I understand that piracy is an issue (because let's be honest, this is most likely their solution to prevent piracy) and new measures need to be put in place, but this isn't a very good answer.

If you don't have enough money to pay for better internet, then how the hell are you buying a next-gen console?

Niko's got a good point LOL, why buy a next-gen if you can't afford decent internet

it's more like not that people can't afford it, but who can't get good internet.around my town there is ONLY 1 isp, which is windstream and is plain awful.compared to the town near mine its not as good as any major isp and its also more expensive.i have 3mb, but regularly is 1.5~ to 2 mb with a ping from 72 to 900ish. there's absolutely nothing i can do until some other isp comes along sometime.also they have said before with this put in place it will allow bigger and better multiplayer worlds which could go on without you.

Wagering I just don't get why they have to do it though?

To stop modders.

they will never stop modders no matter what console they will be there whether you like it or not

They will soon mod the physical console itself so it doesn't need constant online, if they do that then I will be getting a modded one!

I thought that was what a JTAG was.
