Minecraft PC sales top 11 million

Minecraft sales have topped 11 million copies on PC, Mac and Linux, according to Marcus 'Notch' Persson, the creator of the smash hit.

Sales of the world building game across all platforms have now surpassed 27 million units.

In May, it was announced that Minecraft Pocket Edition had sold over 10 million copies, while Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition hit six million sales in late March.

A retail version of Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition will be released in the UK this Friday, June 28, while an Xbox One version of Minecraft was announced earlier this month.

Here's what we said in our 9/10 Minecraft: Xbox 360 review: "Whether you're mining, crafting, building, or fighting - either alone, or with friends - there's nothing quite like Minecraft. An accomplished, streamlined port that's a perfect fit for Xbox 360."

Following Minecraft's "freak" success, Persson said in April that he's feeling the pressure of expectation. His next title is a first-person space game called 0x10c.

There are some completely amazing mods that have been made for Minecraft. My personal favorite is the one that adds villages and an economy

Didn't Machinima give it sort of a reputation boost? I remember seeing something that was about Machinima complaining that they weren't getting paid for making Minecraft popular.


Youtube in general played a massive part in this games popularity. So many Youtubers have been making content for this game to the point where it's almost as popular as call of duty
