Microsoft further clarifies Xbox One headset incompatibility

Existing Xbox 360 headsets are not compatible with the Xbox One, which is something we've known since May, but why exactly is that the case? Why can't John Halo and or Jane Codblops continue to make use of their hefty investment in an expensive headset brand? Well, as it turns out, the plugs are different.

"The Wireless Controller has been redesigned to allow for higher data transfer speed between the controller and the console," Microsoft told Game Informer in a statement. "This also required creating a new expansion port design for headsets and future controller add-on devices which is different from a standard audio plug input."

Microsoft goes on to say that it "plans to develop solutions in the near future to allow consumers to connect many brands of wired gaming headsets to the Wireless Controller for gaming and chat audio," though it does not say what form those solutions may take.

BDB Just make an adapter so we can use our old headset, greedy company.


They have done, but I guarantee it will be like $30-40, just to rinse as much money off of us as they can..

BDB Why don't they let us use our old headsets? Would be much easier.


New controllers and tech will pave the way for newer, better headsets.


But we could save ourselves a lot of money by being able to use our current headsets, but having newer headsets as an optional, better, extra.

A newer console and a new design, I don't see why they wouldn't add a new headset.


If it's some cheap headset like the one default headset for the Xbox 360 is, then it's not worth it. The default Xbox 360 headsets never lasted me over a month. It would make a buzzing noise and then just stop working .-.


I used to have 2. I would use one until it broke, then used the other one, and by the time that one broke, the other pair seemed to have fixed itself! Worked pretty well haha!

No, Turtle Beach is making an adapter for their headsets. Microsoft has nothing to do with Turtle Beach, Astro's, etc.


I would prefer Senheisser gaming headsets, they are awesome


I like my Trittons, they are amazing.


Trittons are very comfy, I have tried my cousins before. Great sound quality too.


Are Trittons better than Astros? I own a pair of Astro A50's and they are pretty good but it seems like more people have Trittons so I don't know if I'm missing out or something.

I haven't tried Trittons yet but I have a pair of Astros that I use when I decide to game. I hope they make an adapter for those as I don't really want to have to buy another pair of Astros.
