Google reportedly working on Android game console

Several third-party game consoles have been developed using Google's Android operating system, but a new report says the tech giant wants to release its own console, likely within the year.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Google is working on an Android console as well as a smart watch that runs the operating system. The devices could be released as early as this fall, the report claims, citing unnamed sources.

The report doesn't clarify if Google would make the device itself or if it would be made through a third-party hardware provider, a move the company has used extensively with its Nexus brand of smartphones and tablets. The Journal's sources claim the devices are being made in anticipation of similar products by Apple, which has long been rumored to be working on smart watch and television devices that may possibly run iOS apps.

Android, the most-used smartphone operating system in the world, has been used in several gaming devices that have launched in the past year. Ouya, which publicly launched through retail outlets Tuesday, is perhaps the most notable console running Android, having obtained tremendous crowdfunding support through Kickstarter. Most Android gaming devices released so far have used interface skins and their own stores, however, making their Android roots less noticeable.

It really depends on the specifications and quality of the console. If it turns out well i wouldn't have any problem forking out a few hundred dollars for it


Me neither, I'm looking forward to this. I honestly think that this will be something renewing for the gaming community.


If it's mostly an app console I don't think it will be doing much. It more and likely won't be able to compete with the Xbox One or PS4 but Google might have something in store for us to see.

MoDOT google owns it? Watch out so does the NSA no hiding now. But ot sure if it will be good lol its google they will make money.


Does Google support the NSA? I had heard that Microsoft supports the NSA but I'm unaware if Google does.

xCeeTee Sorry, but this will be a flop. People want reliability, and unless it proves that it's miles better than the PS4 and Xbox One and comes out near to the same time as they do, it won't sell that well.


I'm sure Google will try to make the console compare to the Xbox One and PS4. But because Microsoft and Sony are known for their consoles, I don't think it will compare. I may be wrong but we will have to wait and see.


It may not sell as well as the Xbox One and the PS4 because it's an entry level console. I can't see it failing or not doing well though. Google will figure something out


It'll probably be more comparable to the Wii U in sales and popularity. If Google plays their cards right it could even possibly out sell the Wii U.


Well the WiiU hasn't been going great so it would not be a big surprise if Google bypasses it in sales. It all comes down to the game lineup that they will have available on launch in my opinion


well I mean, there is only going to apps ont his one like the ouya, right?


I'm not really sure myself. I could see Google using some form of disc, it just depends how big their console is


If it's a game console I don't think they will limit themselves to apps only. It wouldn't do that good unless the apps are made into full games and that stuff. I am sure they will try to get CD games on here as well.


I hope that they somehow get some good exclusive games on this console if they bring it out. It's kind of expected seeming that it's Google


I just have a feeling this console is going to get flooded with Google adds. Like YouTube and Google+. Hopefully it doesn't, adds can get kinda annoying when they are just shoved in your face.


Hopefully they can just make us pay a good $200 for the console and have it over and done with. I don't want to see any adds.


I would pay $200 why not.
