Google reportedly working on Android game console

Several third-party game consoles have been developed using Google's Android operating system, but a new report says the tech giant wants to release its own console, likely within the year.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Google is working on an Android console as well as a smart watch that runs the operating system. The devices could be released as early as this fall, the report claims, citing unnamed sources.

The report doesn't clarify if Google would make the device itself or if it would be made through a third-party hardware provider, a move the company has used extensively with its Nexus brand of smartphones and tablets. The Journal's sources claim the devices are being made in anticipation of similar products by Apple, which has long been rumored to be working on smart watch and television devices that may possibly run iOS apps.

Android, the most-used smartphone operating system in the world, has been used in several gaming devices that have launched in the past year. Ouya, which publicly launched through retail outlets Tuesday, is perhaps the most notable console running Android, having obtained tremendous crowdfunding support through Kickstarter. Most Android gaming devices released so far have used interface skins and their own stores, however, making their Android roots less noticeable.

one of my friemds told me google was goimg to try with this.. in my opinion google wont be able to compete with xbox and PlayStation... google will have a game system that isess popular than the wii..

xCeeTee Sorry, but this will be a flop. People want reliability, and unless it proves that it's miles better than the PS4 and Xbox One and comes out near to the same time as they do, it won't sell that well.


I'm sure Google will try to make the console compare to the Xbox One and PS4. But because Microsoft and Sony are known for their consoles, I don't think it will compare. I may be wrong but we will have to wait and see.


It may not sell as well as the Xbox One and the PS4 because it's an entry level console. I can't see it failing or not doing well though. Google will figure something out


It'll probably be more comparable to the Wii U in sales and popularity. If Google plays their cards right it could even possibly out sell the Wii U.


Well the WiiU hasn't been going great so it would not be a big surprise if Google bypasses it in sales. It all comes down to the game lineup that they will have available on launch in my opinion


Really, if Google throws some good hardware in there with some good games that will make it unique enough from the mobile crowd and it will place that console in the middle of this whole console spectrum. All Google has to do is get some publishers to throw some exclusive games on there that are desirable and they will be good.

BDB Another console? :D I'm getting the PS4 though, good thing Google's making a console to!


It was only a matter of time. I know their Android phones do pretty good at sales but I'm sure this will just add to Google sales. What I want to know is if it will be able to compete with the Xbox One and PS4.
