Nintendo loses battle to take control of WiiU.com domain

4.5
Nintendo has lost the fight to gain control over the domain WiiU.com after a complaint was filed back in February.

WiiU.com in all its glory...
The decision was posted to the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) website on Saturday, confirming that Nintendo's complaint to gain control of WiiU.com was denied, as reported by Fusible.

The domain has been registered by a company in Burlington, Massachusetts since 2004.

Fusible notes that WiiU.com was put up for auction, yet once Nintendo filed the complaint with WIPO the listing was removed. It appears that Nintendo will have to pay a sizable amount in order to have control of the domain.

WiiU.com is currently a placeholder site containing link to both Wii U and non-WiiU content.

There has been no explanation provided as to why Nintendo lost the case.

The people who owned WiiU, should be able to keep it since they made it

Why did they even go to court over this? If they owned it since 2004 then obviously they are going to keep it. Seems like the lawyers over at Nintendo did not do the greatest job. Now they are just going to have to pay the company off.

iJarH3ad WiiU.com was created first before Nintendo published WiiU, Person who own WiiU.com deserved to keep it. I'm sure Nintendo had enough power to control everything....

Agreed, they cant launch a product and expect to take the url when its been up since 2004

I would agree with you if the current domain owner had use of the site. It's one of those annoying useless sites that nobody likes.

same crap with the xbox, best pay up Nintendo!

the domain was there before the idea of wiiU was even thought of. of course the owner of the domain should be able to keep it. Nintendo im sure will be able to buy it off the man for a hefty fee. that man is very lucky.
