No off switch for Sony's DualShock 4 lightbar

4.5
Even in the name of battery life, it will remain on

President of Sony's worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed via Twitter that the lightbar on the DualShock 4 controller cannot be turned off.

The lightbar on the PS4 controller is used with the PlayStation camera to detect motion control in the same way as Move controllers, and can be used by developers to increase the game's experience, such as the way it works as a health bar in Killzone: Shadow Fall.

The lightbar, however, cannot be switched off, as Yoshida confirmed on Twitter. Responding to a question on whether the lightbar can be deactivated in order to conserve the controller's battery, Yoshida simply stated "no."

I don't think many people will be bothered.

This doesn't bother me, for some reason, when I play, I keep the lights on. So, this won't bother me at all.

that doesn't really bother me... it's not too bright

I play it the dark a lot and don't want my room glowing up in gay colours

Sure they said that the console's USB system remains on, even when the console is off so you can charge controllers overnight

It's fine with me. Maybe it should use a dim red color for low battery life.

What's the point of making it so it can't be turned off?

I'll just rip the LED out...

Honestly if your complaining about the light bar, might as well complain about the ROL on the 360 controller. It's not that much different, it's just a soft glow coming out of it and it won't even be facing you. I doubt you will even notice it unless you have your face directly at the controller. Also, about battery life. It comes with a charging cord people you can just charge and play it's not that big of a deal.

I'm sure someone will find a way to turn it off through modifying the controller.
