Sony Won't Appeal Fine Related to 2011 PSN Hack

4.7
Sony dropped its appeal and will therefore have to pay a £250,000 fine issued by the UK Information Commissioner's Office related to a massive data breach on PSN in April 2011. ICO issued the fine in January 2013, calling the hack a "serious breach of the Data Protection Act."

"After careful consideration we are withdrawing our appeal. This decision reflects our commitment to protect the confidentiality of our network security from disclosures in the course of the proceeding," a Sony representative told V3. "We continue to disagree with the decision on the merits."

MW2-Rush 250,000$, I wish I that kind of money!

HD_Res I doubt microsoft is gonna get hacked, and even when they did before they had xbox live back up and running within an hour. If there's one thing Microsoft is good it it's having a secure network. I couldn't even get my old account back for a few months lol.

Microsoft did get hacked once. Well, kinda. They then hired the guy to make a patch for MW2 to prevent hackers from stealing players information.

I'm pretty sure that's how it went.

TomorrowLand 250,000 is nothing to them so course they will pay it

I don't know.... 250,000 would be a lot to anybody, wouldn't you think?

To a company like Sony, it's not that much. Now if it was like a local game store(not a GameStop) then that would be a problem but to Sony it's nothing compared to the money they make.

Should 2.5 million lol.

It's just as likely as the Xbox One getting hacked honestly. Sony has gotten their act together plus the PS3 was an easy target people don't realize Sony had a lot more things to deal with like their successful movie producing copmany the millions of products they make like TV's and what not they definitely dropped the ball but I think they've seen how big the gaming market has grown and i'm pretty sure they won't let anything happen now.

May I remind you that SONY have seperate departments for each of these products the produce? It's not as if one team runs the entire production of products.
One team had a job of securing PSN and the information it withheld, it's got nothing to do with the movies from SONY or TV's. The team that are designated to PSN security didn't to their job correctly, or they're just not as good as people who want to undo their work.
