Microsoft secures Xbox One domains following dispute

4.7
Microsoft has secured ownership of the domain names XboxOne.com and XboxOne.net following a dispute with their previous holder.

Fusible reports that Microsoft was successful in its bid to take control of the domains after it lodged a complaint with the National Arbitration Forum in late May.

Microsoft pursuit of the domains was aided by The Richard Law Group, which also helped the platform holder secure XboxPhone.com and XboxTablet.com last year.

Fusible notes that Microsoft has become the first company to secure the matching dotcom domain of its next-gen console.

PlayStation4.com re-directs to PlayStation focused games website PSX Extreme, while Playstation4.com is owned by Poise Media Inc.

Nintendo recently failed to secure the WiiU.com domain name after filing a cybersquatting complaint.

Microsoft has confirmed that Xbox One will be available in 21 markets this November. The Xbox One price has been set at £425 / €499 / $499.

As part of a sweeping restructuring plan at Microsoft, former Windows chief Julie Larson-Green was last week named boss of the Devices and Studios Engineering Group, which encompasses all hardware development, including Xbox.

Titanium I am surprised they didn't secure them earlier. They usually secure them right when they have the idea for a new device.

Erm no, otherwise people would figure out the name before they were ready. At least think before posting jebus.

Gossip I wonder if they had to pay for it.

I bet they had to but they aren't going to tell anyone. People will start making domains abut xbox hoping that one day Microsoft will buy it off them.

Starify I can see why someone had the domain name already, because of their lack of creativity when making a name. I wonder if the person had to give it up, or if they were offered money.

They probably had to give it up. Microsoft has much power everywhere, so it wouldn't surprise me that the company got the domain really easy.

ya microsoft is so cheap that prob wouldn't pay $1 for it they just stole it because MS is FGTS.

Alternatively, they brought forward a case which could not be declined due to the intelligence of the legal team behind the case.
