Kinect:Microsoft pledges to “aggressively challenge” government spying

4.5
Xbox One’s Kinect monitoring tech has had gamers and industry professionals tugging at their collars nervously since it was announced, but Microsoft has stated that it will aggressively challenge any government that uses the device to spy into our homes.

In a statement to The Verge, a Microsoft rep wrote, “Absent a new law, we don’t believe the government has the legal authority to compel us or any other company that makes products with cameras and microphones to start collecting voice and video data.

“We’d aggressively challenge in court any attempts to try and force us to do so.”

The statement follows concerns of Microsoft’s date sharing with the NSA and other government bodies via the US Congress-baked PRISM surveillance initiative.

Microsoft recently explained the nature of its data-sharing, following claims that it has relinquished data from Skype calls, SkyDrive accounts and other services to comply with legal obligations placed on corporations as part of the PRISM strategy.

What do you make of the above? Do you trust Kinect’s monitoring tech? Let us know below.

I'm just going to put something in front of my kinect when i am not using it. Can't trust the shady government, or anyone these days.

Why would they do this?

WubsPosted:

I personally wouldn't trust Microsoft.

Well I guess if you don't trust them you can always just turn the kinect camera and face it at the wall, Then even IF it happens they wont get anything at all

Yin I don't think you can trust Microsoft with this statement. They openly gave the NSA information in the past. Why would I think differently about this? Just because the people found out about it? They could very well just be trying to cover themselves to keep their business in line. If they are telling the truth, the government will get the information one way or another I am sure. If laws are against it, I am sure laws will be edited or made in order to allow it. People that are concerned with the Kinect sensor and other Microsoft related products have every right to be concerned. Everyone should be concerned, whether this affects you or not.

They had to comply with them because of legal obligations as stated in the article, didn't you read it?

GossipPosted:

We all know this isnt going to happen.

661King Well, now that M$ has admitted it has the ability to spy on you, looks like I wont be getting it until they make the kinect removable.

It can record data but NSA can't have it until Microsoft complies with them or a new law is made.

MS, "We will not stand for this, you guys can't force us to record anyone."
Government,"Oh well, I guess all of this NSA spying is goingto stop then."

Curtain closes, Bill gates, "Do you think they bought it?"

Obama," For sure, The idiots bought Obamacare. They will believe anything"
