Kinect:Microsoft pledges to “aggressively challenge” government spying
In a statement to The Verge, a Microsoft rep wrote, “Absent a new law, we don’t believe the government has the legal authority to compel us or any other company that makes products with cameras and microphones to start collecting voice and video data.
“We’d aggressively challenge in court any attempts to try and force us to do so.”
The statement follows concerns of Microsoft’s date sharing with the NSA and other government bodies via the US Congress-baked PRISM surveillance initiative.
Microsoft recently explained the nature of its data-sharing, following claims that it has relinquished data from Skype calls, SkyDrive accounts and other services to comply with legal obligations placed on corporations as part of the PRISM strategy.
What do you make of the above? Do you trust Kinect’s monitoring tech? Let us know below.

I like that microsoft is defending themselves. They want the users to be happy which is something they are doing right. Good for them!

Whirl Well ok on the govt but what about microsoft itself?
I doubt they do anything with the data they get. Either that or they are secretly giving it to the government.

CokesOasis Well the NSA has no jurisdiction where I live so they can go fck themselves. Here people go again, trust me your not interesting enough to be watched. And if you are, good for you lets hope your not a terrorist.
The US government can poke their nose where ever they want these days.
Any government can these days....

EverlitYin I don't think you can trust Microsoft with this statement. They openly gave the NSA information in the past. Why would I think differently about this? Just because the people found out about it? They could very well just be trying to cover themselves to keep their business in line. If they are telling the truth, the government will get the information one way or another I am sure. If laws are against it, I am sure laws will be edited or made in order to allow it. People that are concerned with the Kinect sensor and other Microsoft related products have every right to be concerned. Everyone should be concerned, whether this affects you or not.
They had to comply with them because of legal obligations as stated in the article, didn't you read it?
I read it. There should be no "legal obligations" when it comes to the privacy of innocent citizens. They were legal obligations placed on corporations by the Prism program. Prism is unconstitutional, which basically means it shouldn't exist and is against the law. Microsoft should have challenged it and brought it to light right there, but no one did. My privacy has no right to be stored and listened/viewed upon if I am an innocent person or I am not a suspect of a crime. If a company as big as Microsoft couldn't see the wrong in it then, then why do they care to take action now? Just because people know about it? They may as well just gave the information to them. It's basically what they did.

They can try and challenge it all they want but they still have to work with the government. Same for all companies. So unless they gain some political power I don't see anything changing.
