No indie RAM restrictions on Xbox One, exec claims

4.7
Indie developers wishing to make games on Xbox One are likely to have full access to the console's RAM and features, contrary to suggestions otherwise.

That's according to Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Studios, who took to Twitter on Thursday night to address concerns from independent developers.

When asked whether indies would get access to the bigger pool of RAM or simply the 3GB in the console's Windows partition, Spencer replied: "Goal is to allow devs access to full pool of resources available, no indie RAM limit."

Spencer also discussed how indie games can be 'discovered' on Xbox One, an issue many indies have expressed concern with.

"We are committed to creating a search tools and marketplace pivots to allow you to find games you'll like," he responded when taking questions on Twitter.

"More details to come. Likely pivot is 'Most Popular' giving you a view of what people are buying regardless of how it is published."

After another Twitter user then suggested the next step was to keep single-player games offline and keep the cloud for multiplayer games only, Spencer defended single-player cloud processing.

He tweeted: "Cloud for multiplayer only modes is a mistake, can have dramatic impact to single player campaigns. Give creators the tools, they'll decide. Leaderboards, ghosts etc. are features that come from a connection. Not required features but can make single player better."

On Wednesday, Microsoft revealed its indie self-publishing policies. As part of a wider plan, each retail Xbox One console will also double as a development kit for games developers.

In response, a number of indie developers said they remain cautious about Xbox One self-publishing, saying more details would have to be known before they could commit to releasing games on the system.

Another example of the casual gaming troop trying to ruin good single player in favour of repetitive pick up and play multiplayer.

Single player is more repetitive as multiplayer never ends. Multiplayer is the new target for developers now as it draws in more consumers, which draws in more money. It's called good business.

A new target? Are you serious? Pvp has been around much longer than you think, but my point is that in recent years multiplayer has become more important than a decent well thought out single player. Many games imo suffer because mp takes front seat in the dev stages, yet some of the best mp always grows from a sp, for example Halo, future Assassins Creeds, GTA, god damn Minecraft and so on.

I just don't want to see the market change so much so that decent story telling gets lost, also I'm not sure how many games you've played but to say that mp isn't as repetitive as sp is a joke surely, same maps, same few modes, same objectives, same characters, no twists and turns just predictable progression. Don't get me wrong I like mp but I definitely don't agree with you. Maybe games like Titanfall and to some degree Destiny are on to something with no/limited sp in favour instead of mp lead story telling. Guess the future will tell all.

I completely agree. Multiplayer is the the first thing on the minds of many developers. AC for instance when downhill with multiplayer added. I hate seeing great stories get ruined because the dev's want to add a multiplayer with five game modes so they spend less time on the story.

I'm not saying multiplayer as a whole is new. Let me rephrase that. My point was that companies are seeing the massive amount of money that games like cod and bf are bringing in. This is mainly because of the multiplayer, so companies want to incorporate that into their product. This is why companies are " ruining Single player" and are migrating to multiplayer. They want a piece of the pie. Companies are starting to use the Activision method; release a half assed product with a s h i t t y to decent single player and focus solely on multiplayer. This technique, while annoying, brings in revenue. I hope you get where in coming from.

Yes I know why they are doing it and that's why I hate Activison and EA. I love seeing people say MS is money hungry. Look at those companies if you want to see money hungry. It's ridiculous. It's sad that people buy the same garbage year after year.
