Microsoft details Xbox One's 'revolutionary' Smart Match system

"Reengineered" matchmaking system accounts for skill, language and reputation

Microsoft has issued new details on how the Xbox One's "revolutionary" matchmaking system, called Smart Match, will work.

"Smart Match on Xbox One is completely reengineered for a new generation of gaming - using advanced algorithms to pair players based on skill, language, and now reputation," explains the firm.

"The advanced party system goes far beyond the beacons of Xbox 360, which was limited to people you already knew. Helping you discover and connect easily with players is now central to the experience. In addition, for the first time, games will be able to share player stats with Xbox Live and each other; to learn, evolve, and provide you with the best possible matchmaking available," it adds.

The console's multi-tasking abilities will allow you to pass the time previously spent waiting on matchmaking processes by switching between apps on the fly, including letting you watch TV or browse the internet.

Microsoft says that, in the case of "digital games" only (which we assume means Xbox Live Arcade titles), you will be able to play one game while matchmaking in another.

A simple on-screen prompt (pictured right) will alert you when matchmaking is complete and offer you an quick route back to the game in question.

New details on how the Xbox One's reputation-matching system works will be released tomorrow.

Microsoft has admitted today that it's "looking into" bundling headsets with Xbox One console in response to strong fan feedback.

The platform holder has previously said that the Kinect bundled with every Xbox One is intended to provide the console with out-of-the-box in-game chat capabilities in place of a headset which, as it stands, will be sold separately.

This sounds quite interesting but I don't know how well it will work when people play with friends from other countries ect. Either way it will be quite good to be pitted with players of the same skill calibre.

The only place I've had this problem is playing Gears of War. A lot of people are Spanish speaking on that game.

I've actually never been in a match where somebody spoke a different language...

Cokes Well actually, I didn't consider the people in Europe. I'm assuming they get a lot of people that don't speak the same language.

yeah to be honest most foreign people are kinda pushed under the bus.

MW2-Rush This is a great idea, now I don't have to hear people speaking other languages.

I've been getting into a lot of matches with people who don't speak english o.o

I find it annoying when it happens for many reasons... such as. You don't know what in the hell they are saying, you can't talk and you kinda get lonely, can't play objectively, and it is just **** annoying. xD

When they end up on my team it's so weird. lol

But how rarely does that ever happen.
