Codemasters drops online pass for F1 2013

4.5
F1 2013 will ditch the online pass functionality previously attached to a number of Codemasters' racing titles.

The unpopular system - recently discontinued by publisher EA - requires players to either input a code found in new copies of a game or pay a one-time fee to access online multiplayer features.

It's not yet clear if Codies intends to drop online passes for its other racing series like Grid and Dirt, but it confirmed in a F1 2013 Q&A that no such pass will be required for the upcoming game.

It also said there won't be a demo of the title as it wants to focus all of its resources on the final product, and explained that McLaren and Ayrton Senna won't feature in the new F1 Classics mode due to licensing issues.

Codemasters has announced a F1 2013 release date of October 4 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Featuring all the cars, circuits and star drivers from the 2013 season, the game will be available in two editions: F1 2013 and F1 2013: Classic Edition.

The standard edition of the game provides access to iconic cars and drivers from the 1980s, while the premium edition delivers more classic content from the 1990s.

Why do games even need online passes?? I think its a stupid idea.

Ugh codes for playing online ruin games. When I bought Homefront and tried to play it online, the pass had already been used. Seeing as it's a used game I understood, but aren't they supposed to put a new pass in? Regardless, good call Codemasters.

Mortar This is a wise decision as online passes are quite the pain in the behind. It will mean that more people will be able to play the game as even if they purchase a pre-owned copy, they don't have to worry about spending an extra bit to obtain a pass.

I agree. I once pre ordered a used copy of some EA game and I was pretty disappointed to see that I needed a working online pass

Happened to me when I bought Battlefield 3. Well actually I bought it brand new and didn't realize it came with the online pass or was needed to play online so when I tried to go on it, it told me I needed to buy one so I bought one online ._. That's my own fault for not looking to see if I had it but still the online pass just seems pointless in my opinion.

Frog I'm so happy that EA are dropping those stupid online passes! They really annoyed me when I borrowed, or bought second hand games!

It was such a bad idea
