CoD: Ghosts pre-orders 'well below' BO2 due to platform uncertainty

Consumer hesitation is 'as one would expect' during console transition, says Activision boss

Pre-orders for Call of Duty: Ghosts are "well below" that of last year's Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 owing to 'hesitation' caused by the looming console transition.

Activision Publishing president Epic Hirshberg said in an earnings call today, "As one might expect in this console transition year, pre-orders for Call of Duty: Ghosts are well below the record-setting pace set by Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 last year."

While no figures were disclosed, Hirshberg went on to say the company's "quantitative consumer research" indicates that "hesitation amongst past CoD pre-orderers is primarily due to not knowing which platform they'll be playing on, which is natural at this time in the console transition."

It is unclear whether any other factors, such as generally softening interest, have contributed to the pre-order slump.

On the positive side, Hirshberg noted, "Ghosts pre-orders are over double those of Call of Duty: Black Ops, which is the last time we launched a new sub-brand for the franchise."

He went on to assure that the company has in place "the most aggressive marketing, retail, and digital programs in the history of the franchise" for this year's entry, which is set to arrive on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, PC and Wii U.

Despite the dip in pre-orders for the next CoD, Hirshberg cl;aimed that Call of Duty's digital sales in Q2 2013 (ended June 30) broke records, growing "over 100 per cent year-on-year".

Black ops 2 sales during the quarter also exceeded Modern Warfare 3 sales during the same period the year prior.

Activision has confirmed a Call of Duty: Ghosts release date of November 5 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The game will be a launch title for Xbox One and PS4.

No. Unlike the CoD franchise, they actually add a lot of stuff.
They made up a bull **** reason, "It's low because of Console uncertainty." Yeah right, it's low because people are starting to figure out that hey, these **** aren't doing anything new.

Dud your trash for saying that bf4 will be the most realistic shooter out there besides arma3 cod is the same thing every year titanfall will be way better than the nxt cod.

So you're saying that ghosts is going to be different? I think not. Same game every year, I stopped after mw2.

Just waiting for a release date and the collectors edition then ill preorder depending on what it is.
I think thatll all change once the MP is revealed and as we get closer to release.

HDITeRRoRiZeI It's the same game year-after-year and they wonder why they are losing on Pre-orders and sales. They lost sales on BO2, and they are shocked that they are losing this time round as well, they need there heads looking at if they think they are making progres vs other game companies such as Rockstar Games or Ubisoft for example.

I Hope this Franchise fails soon because the Game Developers need to be shot, every one of them. They make no changes to the games, apart from the animations and FX and a new story line which I suppose is the only thing keeping up along with Zombies.

If Ghost's doesn't have Dedicated Server's, then they can count me out for another year running.

Just because you do not like the game does not mean everyone hates it, there are actually quite alot of people that do like the game even though they are repetitive because there is not a game like this on the market with this type of gameplay and before you say battlefield, there is no way you could play MLG and many other things on battlefield because the gameplay is too slow paced. And your saying they lost sales on black ops 2 when that game set the highest sales for any call of duty game released? Dont really think that makes sense and to be fair the franchise of COD has got a long way to go before it fails because when everyone has chosen their consoles which they want t play on they will buy the game, just cos pre-orders aint sky high dont mean people are not buying the game.


Well could you explain the fact that they have lost sales and pre-orders. I agree that there isn't any other game on the market but that isn't an excuse to not improving the game like Dedicated servers, security and a whole lot more which I could name. They could have improved the clan systems a whole lot more and imo, COD:ELITE was just a waste of time.

I liked the game until the Lag Compensation **** the game up. Why should I alow some noobs steal my internet speed for the sake of them not having good connection speeds? Instead they should have introduced Dedicated Servers to stop this, but no they won't for 'Some' reason.


The security on the game? whats wrong with it and the artical there explains why they have lost pre-orders, people dont know what console they want, at first i was going for the ps4, but now about has removed all the shit they was going to do i think i might get the xbox
