CoD: Ghosts pre-orders 'well below' BO2 due to platform uncertainty

Consumer hesitation is 'as one would expect' during console transition, says Activision boss

Pre-orders for Call of Duty: Ghosts are "well below" that of last year's Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 owing to 'hesitation' caused by the looming console transition.

Activision Publishing president Epic Hirshberg said in an earnings call today, "As one might expect in this console transition year, pre-orders for Call of Duty: Ghosts are well below the record-setting pace set by Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 last year."

While no figures were disclosed, Hirshberg went on to say the company's "quantitative consumer research" indicates that "hesitation amongst past CoD pre-orderers is primarily due to not knowing which platform they'll be playing on, which is natural at this time in the console transition."

It is unclear whether any other factors, such as generally softening interest, have contributed to the pre-order slump.

On the positive side, Hirshberg noted, "Ghosts pre-orders are over double those of Call of Duty: Black Ops, which is the last time we launched a new sub-brand for the franchise."

He went on to assure that the company has in place "the most aggressive marketing, retail, and digital programs in the history of the franchise" for this year's entry, which is set to arrive on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, PC and Wii U.

Despite the dip in pre-orders for the next CoD, Hirshberg cl;aimed that Call of Duty's digital sales in Q2 2013 (ended June 30) broke records, growing "over 100 per cent year-on-year".

Black ops 2 sales during the quarter also exceeded Modern Warfare 3 sales during the same period the year prior.

Activision has confirmed a Call of Duty: Ghosts release date of November 5 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The game will be a launch title for Xbox One and PS4.

This was obvious as soon as they announced the new consoles. They won't see their sales record for at least a couple of years most likely. Good thing they acknowledged the source of the problem. It could have potentially meant bad things if it was because of the fan-base.

Yes I was bout to say the same, I'm moving back over to BF4 I loved BF3 but not everyone I knew had it. Next COD I'll be getting is Bops3 if that ever comes to be, just for the zombie. But I'm not going Ghost this year.

No. Unlike the CoD franchise, they actually add a lot of stuff.
They made up a bull **** reason, "It's low because of Console uncertainty." Yeah right, it's low because people are starting to figure out that hey, these **** aren't doing anything new.


So blind. Please tell how BF 3 and 4 are different


lol this arguement is mpointless. I like cod and BF but you can't say "Tell me how BF4 will be different from BF3" when 4 has not even be released. COD is also EXTREMELY similar each year so shush (AND YES I PLAY COD MORE THAN BF).


By that logic how can you say Ghost will be the same as the others when it hasn't come out yet??????


Due to history. COD has ALWAYS been the same since COD BO 1. And since there has been more CODs then BFs, then you can assume that COD will be the same where BF will be different.

Also, in BF3 you couldn't blow up structures, set road blocks, play on the game from your tablet, etc... while in BO2, the only thing that was new was the campaign structure (which IW will not use). All the other features were the same. However, Ghost will have the a dog in the campaign, so again the only new feature is going to be in the campaign.

On a side note, i hope they fix their multiplayer. Specially, they need fix their maps and go back to using a WAW style. So instead of only have 3 options to go through a map, there are multiple ways. I'm tired of dying by some grenade at the beginning of the map. They should also ADD more killstreaks based on your prestige. So if i am the 3rd prestige then i should be able to use 5 killstreaks!!! I rather be able to buy a killstreak slot then buy a perm unlock. (Which is pointless).

They should also go back to the whole double XP , "PRO" perks (or simply add more perks). Mainly, get back to COD 4 / MW2 style; where there was stopping power and jugg. Who cares if there are OP? There are the main reasons why ppl loved COD 4! So yea, get back to adding OP perks, guns and killstreaks. I mean, who wouldn't enjoy seeing a return of the G3, Tar, etc...?
