Xbox One users can share Gold privileges via 'Home Gold'

4.7
Microsoft has detailed a new Xbox Live Gold privilege-sharing feature for Xbox One.

Called 'Home Gold', it lets an Xbox Live Gold account holder share their Gold status with multiple other Live accounts on a single Xbox One.

This includes access to multiplayer gaming, Game DVR, SmartMatch and entertainment apps including Skype and Internet Explorer.

The system will allow you to designate your 'Home' Xbox One with universal Gold privileges, allowing any Xbox Live account accessed through that console to benefit from your Gold status even if you're logged out.

Logging your account into a different Xbox One - such as at a friend's house - will enable all users on that console Gold access too, but only for as long as you're logged into that console.

This system is designed to abolish the need to share Live accounts, so every user in a household can have their own Xbox Live account without having to worry about paying for another $60 Xbox Live Gold subscription.

Microsoft has also confirmed that the same rules will apply to your digital games content - all users will have access to your digital games collection on your home console even if you're logged off, but other Xbox One consoles will require you to be logged in for access to your digital games.

Any content downloaded to other consoles while you're online will be deactivated once you log off, and further use will require a full purchase by a local Live account.

Microsoft originally planned to allow Xbox Live accounts to share their full games library via a 'Family Sharing' feature, but the feature was scrapped along with the console's always-online DRM policy that would have made game sharing possible.

Xbox One will be available in 21 markets this November. The Xbox One price has been set at £425 / €499 / $499.

This sounds like something that would get you banned on the Xbox 360.

DontBeStupid This is pretty pointless really, because not many people console share anymore, my brother lives in the same house as me but uses a different Xbox 360 because we both play regularly.

It's more convienent for younger gamers. It seems like sharing a console is more common with younger kids. It's not a pointless feature, it's a convenience.

It probably just won't be used so much.

Maybe you won't. But I know many people who share consoles with their brother. There will be tons of people who will use this feature. It may not appeal to you, but it does to thousands of others.

For anyone who hasn't thought this through yet, now you don't have to purchase gold for a second account. You'll be able to make as many accounts on your console as you want and enjoy all the perks of gold without the extra cost. So if you're like me, and many, many other users, you can now have your accounts more easily. Ex. When I used to play xbox, I had an account strictly to mess around on in COD, specific accounts to just play through and rank as quickly as possible without worrying about stats, a modded account, and my main which I would try hard on.

This is a nice touch. They're not going to make nearly as much through the sale of XBox LIVE anymore though.

This is actually pretty awesome. I have some friends that are brothers. They share the same Xbox usually, so it will be cool if only one has to buy gold for the both of them. I may not use this much, but great news if I ever decide to.

I don't see myself using this as I keep one account on my console. Still I guess this is good for people who plan to use this.

Basically. but just a standard 12 month code will count for every xbox account on the console :D
