Xbox One controllers compatible with PC in 2014

The Xbox One controller will work with your Windows PC – just not when the Xbox One launches later this year. A Microsoft representative says the company hopes to roll out the drivers in 2014.

"As we've stated, the Xbox One controller, although it looks similar in many ways, shares no underlying technology with the current Xbox 360 controller. New wireless protocol, combined with the ability to work in 'wired' mode, and the addition of features like Impulse triggers, means that new software has to be written and optimized for the PC," the representative told CVG . The representative also said work must go into ensuring existing games supporting Xbox 360 controllers also support the Xbox One game pad.

One of the big differentiators between the Xbox One and Xbox 360 controllers is Wired mode, which allows an Xbox One game pad, when plugged in through micro-USB, to disable its radios and operate as a true wired controller.

Well its about time. Finally I can use my controller I got with my console that I paid over the top for with my PC. Hopefully PS4 integrates this idea as well.

thats pretty good, not sure if i will like the xbox one controller, might have to stick with the xbox 360. i really hope the xbox one controller is comfortable :/

This is great news for me, because I have a gaming laptop. But I game while on my bed so I have no room for a mouse. So I had to buy a wireless adapter to play with my Xbox 360 controller. But it's great news that the new Xbox One controllers will be compatible.

cookes Guys the Original wireless Xbox 360 controller was optimised for PC !! This makes no difference to PC gamers !! Its just more money for us to spend, nearlly every big PC game is optimised for the Xbox 360 controller..

It was a major pain getting the Xbox 360 wireless controller to work with the PC, If i remember correctly you needed an adapter of some sort as well. Wired controllers worked excellently though

I don't understand why Microsoft is trying to get everything thing about the One like the Kinect and the controller onto the PC, nobody really cares about it.


A controller is essential at times when playing a PC. You would be surprised how many bad ports there are
