Microsoft: Xbox One and Kinect are not separate systems

Even though Microsoft has now said that the Xbox One will work without the included Kinect sensor if it is not plugged into the game console, the company is sticking with its original message that the Kinect and the Xbox One are a team.

In an interview with Computer and Video Games, Microsoft Xbox exec Phil Harrison is blunt when it comes to the link between the Xbox One and the Kinect. He stated, "Xbox One is Kinect. They are not separate systems. An Xbox One has chips, it has memory, it has Blu-ray, it has Kinect, it has a controller. These are all part of the platform ecosystem."

Harrison added that he has an Xbox One in his home and claims that the Kinect sensor's features, including being able to launch the Xbox One and load his player profile just by the sensor "seeing" him is a "very magical experience."

In the same interview, Harrison said that they have yet to announce a specific launch date for the Xbox One, beyond just "November 2013", due to "a certain number of marketing reasons." Sony announced this week that the rival PlayStation 4 console will launch in the US on November 15th and in Europe on November 29th. Recently, Microsoft revealed that a number of European countries will have to wait until sometime in 2014 to get a localized version of the Xbox One.

Harrison would not comment on if the North American Xbox One bundle will get a free digital game like the company is offering in Europe with FIFA 14. Microsoft will also make more announcements about its non-gaming media partnerships for the Xbox One at a separate event in the near future, according to Harrison.

Sure, PC has higher quality, but MOST computers and laptop can't run on highest quality unless you pay thousand of dollars for graphic card plus there are almost no people playing online, so it's mostly for single player game. That's why PC is unpopular.

PS3? Rofl, for many years, Sony ALWAYS have a problems such as server and hacked. PS3 got hacked 3 times and stole a lot of credits cards. How many did xbox got hacked? That's right, zero plus xbox have extremely powerful security and almost impossible to branch into their security. That's why I feel comfortable with xbox instead of PS4.

If you think ps4 is the best in the world, please get your brain working....


Im not on either side of this console war. I believe both consoles will do their thing.

But you are acting like the xbox was perfect and had no problems. Xenon,zephyr,opus, and falcon. The first four revisions of the xbox mobo. All had the same problem,rrod. Then finally it was solved with Jasper revision in 08ish to early 09. It took ms almost four years to solve the same problem. They still havent decided to purchase decent disc drives to solve the all to common disc read and open tray errors. So imo, Sony demolished ms in quality. Yeah sony had there ylod problem but it was nothing like rrod.

So how bout this. Imagine this as a card game. Sony getting hacked is canceled out by the quality issues the 360 had. Now look at the fatures, price, etc. and make your choice from those on what console you getting. Then when you make your decision,DONT POST IT,because we dont care.

Most people ik play there games in a small room not a living room...so they can't even use it to play with it. I honestly think it's still to soon for Microsoft to be pushing motion gaming, unless it's very accurate and has games that hardcore gamers can get into, that shit will never fly.

i have never had/used one. hopefully the kinect with the xbox one will be better then the 360 version.

It was said on another article that Kinect being bundled can be a good thing, because now developers can focus on making good games for Kinect without worrying not a lot of people have it.


Exactly. Now that everyone will have one you will be seeing it a lot more in games. Cross platform games maybe not so much since the PS4 doesn't come with the Eye.


And even if it did the "eye" isn't advance like the kinect
