Nintendo 2DS out Oct. 12 for $130, plays all 3DS, DS games

The Nintendo 2DS is a new handheld in the DS family due out on October 12 for $130, in red and blue. As its name suggests, the 2DS plays all 3DS and DS games, but in 2D. It's a solid piece of hardware, no hinges, with dual screens the same size as 3DS screens, one circle pad, a camera, a single speaker and standard DS face buttons. Nintendo calls the 2DS "an entry-level dedicated portable gaming system."

Nintendo describes the 2DS as follows: "The system features a distinctive fixed, slate-type form factor .... Nintendo 2DS maintains many of the same hardware features as Nintendo 3DS: dual screens, game-play controls and touch-screen features. The system also has backward compatibility with the existing library of more than 2,000 Nintendo DS games, as well as access to wireless connectivity features like multiplayer online game play, fun Nintendo Video content and great digitally delivered games in the Nintendo eShop."

Well it's not a very bad idea to be honest. It's intended for small children so they don't break the screen or have their eyes damaged by the 3D. I am sure that it will draw a fair few parents in

At the price that they are selling it for i often wonder that myself, the only reason i would buy it is if it was on a 75% off sale, just to buy the legend of zelda wind waker HD remake then sell the console back to gamestop for a profit once i am done

I would buy this for Pokemon X, but this console comes out on the same day, and I expected to get Pokemon X on midnight release. I doubt I'll be able to get this thing on midnight release, but who knows. I don't have a 3DS because I'm buying one in a few weeks once I get paid, but I might just consider buying this. Good guy Nintendo, notices their console is expensive, comes out with a new console that is way cheaper and plays the same games. Look at everyone friendzoning Nintendo and going for the PS4 and XOne. Nintendo just wants to be yours. I love you, Nintendo.

Stop being idiots. These aren't targeted towards most of the people on TTG. They're target towards 7 year olds and under who might break the hinges on a regular Nintendo DS. I myself might be buying it because I want pokemon X and Y, but don't want to buy a 3ds.

My 14 year old little cousin has a 3ds and he told me he never even uses the 3D thing because it hurts his eyes after like 20 minutes.

You kids don't have to buy one, stop complaining.


I would say that it is meant for 7 year olds, Nintendo is gearing themselves to more of a teen audience, but you are correct when you say not adults. Seriously, if you're going to get a model for Pokemon X + Y just get the 3DS despite the 3D messing with your eyes. It's so much more convenient to be able to fold and carry it around
