Xbox One Illumiroom projector too expensive for home use

4.6
Xbox One’s Illumiroom projector concept would see your living room plastered with imagery to heighten your immersion in a game. Now, Microsoft’s Albert Penello has said that the tech is now for research purposes only, as it’s too costly to bring to the home market.

If you’re a bit like ‘Illumi-what-now-huh?’, then you can watch this showcase demo of what the projections would have looked like below.

The tech was said to be housed within Xbox One’s Kinect sensor as standard but now, speaking with AusGamers, Xbox One head of product planning Albert Penello has said it’s unlikely to head to your home.

He explained, “I wouldn’t expect you’ll see that. It’s really super-neat if you’re in the lab and you’ve got Microsoft money and you could totally set up this awesome lab, but… we looked at it, but for an average customer it’s, like, thousands of dollars [for the set up].”

Do you feel this is a big loss for the console? Let us know below.

ArmoredHazmat Screw you Microsoft! This is really cool and you decide to scrap the project! Your soft Microsoft. Television's cost upwards of $10,000 and they can't take a risk, making something that could cost $2,000- $5,000. Microsoft your waste!

Who in the name of god would spend $2,000+ on it though, seriously.
Also I've never seen a TV cost that much in my life.

Yeah, seconded. I MIGHT consider spending $150 but no more than $200 on that.

Batman- I saw this when they first had a video of it and thought it would be pretty cool but not worth a few thousand to me.

Agreed, I wouldn't pay thousands for it..

It'd be worth a couple of hundred maybe but that's about it in my opinion.

Thousands of dollars? Nope! Was an amazing idea but unless they lower the proce way down it definitely wouldn't sell and it would be smart not to release it! Kind of a shame though! Looked awesome and i remember when it was first shown

people complain about $100 bucks about the xbox one imagine an addon for the xbox one cost more then the console itself. a regular projector cost about 350 and up
