Xbox One To Support Mods? 'It's Up To Developers' Says Major Nelson

In a first for Xbox, it looks likely that Xbox One will support mods.

Following news that any Xbox One can be used as a dev kit, it was asked on Reddit if this means the console would support mods.

"It's up to developers to support that," answered Microsoft's Major Nelson. "These are two very different things."

His answer suggests that the capacity for modding is there, if developers create games in a way that will support it.

Xbox and Xbox 360 didn't allow for mods but the recent Xbox One policy changes are positioning the new console to be the most open console Microsoft has made to date.

We're still doubtful we'll see mods on Xbox One titles but this is the closest Microsoft has come to allowing them to happen on its console.

Gossip Hate modders, now they've made it easier for people to mod.


They don't ruin the game unlike on games like CoD where people can fly all over the map with god mode and unlimited ammo. On Minecraft it adds a lot more elements to the game, and makes the game last longer before you get bored.


I agree 100% cant wait to find out if it will be added.

Yes but minecraft mods are a fun way to play the game, and they dont run like CoD mods as they just wrecked the game...
CoD runs on randomised servers were as minecraft is private worlds.

Mods would be great for Minecraft Xbox One Edition as people play minecraft for fun and mods will be fun to use and also big youtubers will be able to do mod spotlights.

I would love to see Minecraft with mods for the Xbox One, Mods are what made the PC version great and i was actually a little surprised when they didn't bring them to the 360. I would like to see what members of The Tech Game, and people on the internet in general come up with in accordance to this. Hopefully they will actually allow it to support mods, even if it's in a small amount

I hope they allow people to mod the games because They will get the chance for developers to take the communities ideas. And integrate them into their games. Without people having to make modifications to their Xbox.
