Xbox One in 'full production'; CPU boost confirmed

4.5
Xbox One is currently in 'full production' following a last minute CPU tweak, a Microsoft exec has confirmed.

Speaking at the Citi Global Technology Conference, Xbox chief marketing officer Yusuf Mehdi confirmed the console is currently in its production stage.

He also revealed the company has improved the console's CPU from 1.6 GHz to 1.75 GHz, according to Geekwire.

Mehdi's comments follow similar news from Xbox One chief product officer Marc Whitten last month, who confirmed that the company has increased the console's GPU clock speed by 6.6 per cent.

Microsoft has yet to announce a specific release date for the Xbox One beyond a vague November launch window. In the case of eight European countries, the console won't release until 2014.

Meanwhile, a recent terms and conditions document for an upcoming PepsiCo promo campaign suggests the console will release 'late November'.

Xbox Live director of programming Larry Hryb recently responded to claims the console has been rushed, insisting every Xbox One booth at Gamescom was running on final Xbox One hardware

Wavelength Good to see they're still working on the Xbox One and trying to improve it.

Yeah same, better things I find out makes me want to buy it more and more :3

What happens to all the consoles that were already produced? Do they just not get the CPU speed increase, that would really suck for all of the people who got the ones who didn't get the CPU boost. They weren't in full production before? They could have made even more sales because they would have had more consoles available for pre-order.

daRealRush What's up, with everyone saying RROD, will increase?!?!?!

It's how hardware works. Microsoft reportedly "mastered" the previous values set for them and that is what they were made for. When a piece of hardware is overclocked(what they are doing) it makes it work faster and harder than it should be, thus making it overheat and possibility melt and damage itself. Not all chips are made equally, some will be able to handle it fine, others will have issues and RROD easily.

It would seem you think you know, increasing a CPU or GPU by a few MHz will not damage the system or chips, why? Because all hardware is underclocked unless you buy one that isn't & they specify that on the box.

Ie, AMD black editions these are unlocked so you can get higher overclocks, outside the recommended values.

CPU isn't by a few Mhz. It's by a full 1.5Ghz. That's enough to do damage. The GPU is literally by like 100-300 Mhz(I don't remember)

What? The CPU is increased by 150mhz from 1.6GHz to 1.75GHz the GPU was 800mhz its now 853mhz, so the heat fresh hold won't be that large, it will be minuscule, maybe 1 or 2 celcius.

Snipp They say they've tested and made sure RROD situations won't happen. With this boost, RROD will increase. For you saying it won't, you know nothing about how hardware works. Not every chip is made the same. Some will be able to handle 1.75, some won't. Them doing this is a stupid move, they need to calm down with the overclocking.

With that logic, then it would be the same if they never increased the MHz.

MS would have a large overhead for heat dispersion, they use a copper heatsink & a large fan to get rid of heat, I can bet my life that they won't make the same mistake as the xbox 360.

I would be more worried about the PS4 & its tiny case, we don't know what the heatsink is like, but I can guess it will be the same as the PS3 one with the cylindrical fan intake.

Linear People saying this will increase RROD obviously have no experience in the field.

You're clearly the one here who has no idea what the hell he is talking about.
