Microsoft: PS4 is Not 30% More Powerful than Xbox One

4.8
With the launch dates of Sony and Microsoft's next generation consoles inching near, saying the two sides are entering full-bore marketing blast mode would be a gross understatement. And with new hardware comes debates over which system offers the best performance.

As reported by VideoGamer, Microsoft's director of product planning, Albert Penello, says allegations of a 30 percent advantage for the PlayStation 4 are missing the bigger picture.

"I’m not dismissing raw performance. I’m stating--as I have stated from the beginning--that the performance delta between the two platforms is not as great as the raw numbers lead the average consumer to believe," wrote Penello in a NeoGAF post. "There are things about our system architecture not fully understood, and there are things about theirs as well, that bring the two systems into balance."

Penello's comments were in response to concerns over the internal components of the Xbox One. The alleged performance advantage is mostly attributed to the advanced GPU and RAM found in the PS4. Penello cited the experience of Microsoft programmers in explaining how the Xbox One will succeed, despite the numbers.

Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb agreed with Penello's points in a later Reddit post. "We have some of [the] smartest programmers in the world working on Xbox One," said Hryb. "I am very much looking forward to the next few months (and beyond) as the truth comes out."

The Xbox One launches on November 22, while the PS4 launches on November 15.

Deranged Xbox is always going to be better... i've never seen any competition use a Playstation lmao its just trash the only thing people love about it is small features that mean little to nothing aside from being free internet... which is a huge downfall because they cant progress and put as much protection and changes as Xbox can and is lol i mean look DLC doesnt get to them until a month after we get it they've been hacked how many times, they wont have dedicated servers and there key argument was "we have used games" lol they lost Xbox is better always has always will lol playstation is just for casual gamers that arent on it enough to want to buy a subscription to further researches and advancements anyways

How is it always better, the xbox one gpu clocks at 850 mgz the ps4's gpu clocks at 1800 mgzs so that is a huge difference, the ps4's gpu is practically 2x better than the xbox one

Yet that means litterally nothing for cross-platform games. So the only thing you will be seeing that on is exclusives. Also it will be a while before exclusives even take full advantage of the upgrades.

Dude, did you just not read the article? The Hardware may be better but if it isnt built for the software it is utterly useless. A Example, Apple and Samsung. Apple still has a dual Core chip with 1Gb of RAM and Samsungs phone has a 1.9 Ghz Quad core Chip With 2GBs of ram, The iPhone is still crazy fast with no stutter. On the other hand Android isnt made for that hardware, Its out there with 100 other phones.

I just agreed with you... I think you were trying to reply to kal45

It'll be interesting to see once both consoles are released.

For right now I don't know we will have to see once they are in our hands.

Power wont make much of a diference

Please remember clocks don't mean very much at all. Raw performance wise it's going to be tight, but a PS4 win. However, because the PS4 has new component tech (DDR5 Ram), it's going to take a long time to really reach it's potential. They have worked with this level of vram/gram before however allocating this for actual system work is new. Xbox however have new tech that developers have had experience with, which means at launch - and possibly for a couple years - the Xbox' games will be better.

Corsair And another thing people dont get, The Developers of the games will optimize each game for that Console, So you wont see a difference at all in Gameplay.

Exactly what I've been trying to say! People just don't use common sense.

There are going to be a lot of lies going around towards that release dates. To me it doesn't really matter what the specs are for the consoles and I don't think to matters to most of the teens buying it, they will just buy whatever there friends buy.
