Microsoft Banning Consoles For GTA V Leaks

4.6
An Xbox 360 gamer has managed to get hold of a copy of Grand Theft Auto V before its official release date and has been posting Vine videos with footage from the game, which have spread to NeoGAF.

One of the videos contained his gamertag and Microsoft have quickly dealt a blow and have banned his entire console from Xbox Live, meaning he’ll have to buy a new one.

The Rockstar policy on posting copyrighted material from its games is very clear:

Pre-Release Footage: No pre-release leaked footage of any kind: Any posting of in-game footage from leaked copies of the game prior to its official release date will be taken down, regardless of how the game was obtained. This includes “early unboxing” videos.

Obviously we will not be linking to the videos since they could be considered to contain spoilers, but what do you think of the swift wielding of the ban hammer? Has justice been dealt or is it overkill from Rockstar and Microsoft?

McNuggets_Jr Rockstar are being d*cks in my opinion...

yeah, I mean I don't see how getting a legit copy early should get you banned

xIVIcMuFFiiNx Honestly if he was playing a copy that he legitimately purchased and was somehow able to get a hold of it early then he shouldn't have been banned. He didn't sign any agreement saying he couldn't play it early or show footage of it.

But if he's playing a ripped copy then he deserves to get banned; everybody knows that if you're going to play a game early, especially one that's popular, you play that game offline with and offline account. If you're stupid enough to play it online with your main account well then I'm sorry but you deserve to get banned.

But thats the point I am trying to say if he has bought a legitimate copy he should be able to play online early its not his fault it is the retailers fault but if he did download it illegally then he deserves to be banned yeah but as I will point out for the last time if he bought it legitimatley then the companies should not be able to do this. Microsoft sure does use the Ban Hammer a lot.

The thing is is that he didn't get banned for having it but for leaking footage of the game. I'm sure this situation would have been different if he didn't do that.

Maybe microsoft is finally putting an end to all this early leaks. I mean, since Halo ODST was leaked, everyone is trying to get early releases an every good game.
If this guy used an original copy, he should have been suspended from xbox live a few days, maybe weeks, but using perma-ban for playing was just a scumbag move from microsoft.

Microsoft will never be able to put an end to early leaks and do you want to know why? Because there's always going to be that one retail worker that will screw up and send out copys early.
And the guy shouldn't have even been suspended being as he never signed any agreement saying that he wouldn't do anything that Rockstar didn't want him to. Absolutely nothing should've happened to him.

I find it funny how he had his GT in the video. He should have been more careful.
