Xbox 360 GTA V leaked onto torrent sites for illegal download

Grand Theft Auto V developed by Rockstar for the Xbox 360 has leaked onto torrent sites four days before its release, despite the developer’s attempts to stamp out piracy.

The game, with an open-world larger than the title’s last three entries combined, is the most highly anticipated release of the year and the second most expensive piece of media content ever costing £170m - coming second to Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End’s £300m budget.

In response to the leak, Microsoft is banning the Xbox 360 accounts of individuals who are leaking video and picture content or playing the game early on Xbox Live.

Rockstar’s policy on the publication of copyrighted material from its games is: “No pre-release leaked footage of any kind: Any posting of in-game footage from leaked copies of the game prior to its official release date will be taken down, regardless of how the game was obtained. This includes ‘early unboxing’ videos.”

Social media site Vine has been a safe haven for leaked footage as the 6-second clips can be uploaded en mass and can be shared quickly.

The game file, entitled “Grand.Theft.Auto.V.XBOX360-QUACK”, contains two DVD image files which can be burned and played on flashed Xbox 360 consoles. The file was uploaded on the Pirate Bay torrent website this morning; several hours after exclusive torrent sites received it.

GTA V has received 2.5 million pre-orders ahead of the 17 September launch on PS3 and Xbox 360.

SHEWOLF1119 This game is honestly going to be the game of the century and people that are torrenting it are stupid. GTA V is going to be worth every penny and so much more. All of those people that are pirating the game and are caught on XBL deserve whatever Microsoft throws at them.


I agree 100%. It's like come on get a job and just buy the damn game. Rockstar have been working on this for at least 5 years, why not support them?


Exactly. They are worth every penny they make, even if they will make A LOT, they are worth it, they are providing an excellent, amazing game.

at 2.5 million ordered and at 60 bucks a pop that's only 150,000,000 minus the cut the retailers get.......just from preorders they are probably about 1/3rd of breaking even

No its because I am not stingy and am willing to pay for the game. Do you think you are a select few who have the tools to do it? I was doing it at the age of 11 its nothing special and its not hard.

I think that the people who don't like GTAV being leaked are the people who actually want to support Rockstar and purchase the game and not download and burn it and play it illegally personally myself I have seen some leaks but I wan't to support the developer as it is going to be one awesome game.

DIGGABEATS I just feel that people with modded consoles just cant afford to buy any games that's why they pay to get the console modded for a one time fee or do it themselves, simple logic you have a modded console your poor wouldn't be able to afford the game any way, also the people that got the actual game before release date don't bother me its just the ones that think they are better cause they have an illegal leaked copy of the game but in all actuality your poor as hell and i feel bad you cant afford to buy things such as a 60 dollar game
