GTA Online: Lost characters cannot be restored

Vanishing characters resulting from GTAV connection errors are gone forever

Any characters lost during Grand Theft Auto Online's initial teething problems cannot be restored, Rockstar has confirmed.

The developer revealed the news in an update on its Support Page, confirming that Online characters that disappeared during the game's launch problems cannot be recovered.

GTA Online has undergone connection issues since it went live on October 1.

According to Rockstar, the 'cash stimulus package' it announced last Friday (offering players $500,000 of in-game cash each) is intended to be some consolation for the progress and characters lost during that period.

The statement on the site reads:

"Given some of the recent technical issues during these first days of GTA Online, and now that things are starting to look much smoother (touch wood!), we are planning to provide a special stimulus package for all who have played or will play Grand Theft Auto Online this month.

"We will be dropping a cool half a million GTA$ in the GTA Online bank accounts of all players this month, starting as early as next week.

"For those asking about their lost characters or rank, those will not be able to be restored so we sincerely hope that this cash stimulus we're giving out this month will help you get back on your feet or to make your new life in Los Santos & Blaine extra sweet."

Lol $500,000 wont be anything to most people on GTA, as everyone is doing that stupid car glitch. So is funny how noobs are driving around in their modded super cars at like level 20 etc :L

This really is bad and should not of happened from such an established company. They have the money and the resources to provide top quality entertainment for their fans and they haven't been up to par at all. I expected more.

those don't matter they are unlegit and im guessing you got the money from the los santos customs glitch

So they lost peoples characters but are giving everyone 500k? That makes no sense really.

I was fortunate enough to of never lost a character but I did have issues with saving.

After I made my first $400,000 I spent it on the apartment and it didn't save.

Hopefully this free $500,000 they are giving everyone can help out the people that did lose characters.
