Nintendo of America: Wii to remain on store shelves in US

The Wii will be available in the US as usual this year, Nintendo of America has confirmed. Yesterday, Nintendo of Japan announced that it would discontinue production of the Wii, but the worldwide implications of this stoppage were unclear.

"The announcement that the Wii console has been discontinued is specific to Japan," a representative told Gamespot. "There is no change in the status of Wii in the United States, and it is available for purchase this holiday season."

Earlier this month Nintendo of Japan announced that Wii manufacturing is due to end soon. Nintendo has sold 12.7 million Wii consoles since its launch in late 2006.

I'm an adult now and most Wii games are still fun. Like Mario Party, Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda and Pokemon. I actually pre-ordered the Legend of Zelda Wind Waker Wii U.

predict it will be discontinued early next year. Since it's still around, they probably figure it won't hurt to keep the console in production until the American holiday season is over, since it's the biggest part of the year sales wise. It's not so huge in Japan. Their biggest time of the year for sales is Golden Week, and that's not until the end of April. It makes sense that they would pull the plug on production out there. :)

WHAT??? LMFAO! Dude, it says in this article that Nintendo has sold 12.7 million consoles. There has been around 80 million sales for the 360 and PS3 EACH. In Japan alone 12.75 Million units where sold. That is why the article states it. Hence the line
"The announcement that the Wii console has been discontinued is specific to Japan"


@Konviicted, if you're going to go so far as to call someone ignorant, when THEY'VE got official sources, the least you could do is also provide a source.

@ImgBurn The Wii, a fail console? Hardly. Not only did it sell more units than both the PS3 & 360, it had an amazing lineup of games, despite most of those being sequels of classic games. Didn't you ever find it strange how everyone would argue over PS3 & 360, yet everyone had a Wii in their house?
