Wii discontinued in Europe, Nintendo confirms

Although the original announcement only applied to Japan, Nintendo UK has confirmed that the Wii has also been discontinued in Europe.


“Wii imports to Europe have been discontinued,” a representative told MCV.

“However, there are still a variety of options for consumers to enjoy Wii games and the Wii gameplay experience. Wii U, which is Nintendo’s latest home console, is backwards compatible with nearly all existing Wii games and accessories when you switch to Wii Mode on Wii U.”

Additionally, the Wii Mini will continue to be stocked in Europe, and if worse comes to worst you can always purchase on in the US, where the console has yet to be discontinued.

Cyimking Now nitendo should make an actually hardcore gaming console to compete with the x1 and ps4. Let's face it.. no one plays the wii anymore. Children doesn't even play the wii, they play xbox.


Keep in mind that the Wii is a 6-7 year old console running on quite outdated Hardware. It had a pretty good run in my opinion.

Foolish The Wii did very well for itself. The Wii U, not so much.


The Wii U has flopped pretty hard since release, i couldn't see it getting much better either

Backbone The market got saturated with them, sales have gone down because almost everyone has got one lol There have been no inspireing new inavation to make people carry on buying them...


The fact that everyone has one of them is a huge achievement to say the least. I think the Wii did very well for itself.

Sphinq I do believe that Nintendo Wii has been one of the weakest consoles in terms of survival over time and this supports that I believe.


2006 - 2013 is a pretty considerable run if you ask me. I wouldn't really call a console that has been on the market for 7 years weak.
