Microsoft sued over Xbox Live Points
The class-action lawsuit was filed by Samuel Lassoff, a Philadelphia-based attorney who claims that Microsoft engages in a “scheme to unjustly enrich itself through their fraudulent handling” of his Xbox Live Account, and claims that hundreds of Xbox Live members aren’t getting what they’re paid for, saying, “Microsoft breached that contract by collecting revenues for digital goods and services which were not provided.”.
Microsoft has yet for file a response for the case. The company has been dealing with criticism of the points system for a while, and has said that they might even scrap the whole system and switch to cash purchases. However, there’s no indication that this will happen anytime soon.

Everyone's saying, "Who cares it's only 100 points" but when you think about all the people who have xbox live who has ever downloaded anything at all worth points. They have points leftover. It is almost impossible once you buy points to go back to 0 which means out of all the people that have ever made a purchase over xbox live, Microsoft has their points as profit, so when you add them all up, that's a lot of points...

If they get rid of points no1 would be able to pay other people for things on live like mods. We'd have to switch 2 credit cards which would cause lot of problems I think the systems fine if you have a decent cash flow

You should be able to choose the exact amount of points you want to buy on Live with a Credit card, but I always buy it from a card at bestbuy. I always end up with 20 points left over and it's really annoying!!

who cares about 100 ms points its like $1 or less and anyway you can spend it in the avatar marketplace, so its not useless

It's over for us in the UK because we can only buy 2100 at the lowest.
DLC usually costs 800 MSP.
800 x 2 = 1600
500 Points left over that we don't really need so we spend it on a crappy arcade game that we'll never play because we've just bought some DLC for a game we're in love with.
Point proven.

I don't see how you can really call this a fail, or sue them for it, you paid for the points, not the the product you used the points to purchase. This is only a good business strategy, making very little money off of every single member means that you lose cents, and Microsoft makes a lot. You have to remember when you buy the points that you put out the money knowing full well that what you were receiving was not the game you intended to buy, but points that could be used to purchase what you want. This is the same strategy that many Arcades use, they make you use tokens to use as credits on games, but you cant get a refund on the tokens. I'm not saying that I like the system, I think it's ridiculous that I can't just pay cash (credit card) for my downloads. What I am saying is that people need to stop whining that they can't get a refund on a non-refundable item.
