PS4 launch puts strain on Playstation Network

4.7
Some users are having problems connecting to the PlayStation Network, after Sony noted a "very high volume" on the service following the midnight launch of the PS4. There's no word yet as to when these issues are likely to clear up.

With hundred of thousands of new consoles in the wild, and a significant 308MB firmware patch to download, it's perhaps unsurprising to see issues at this stage.

Sony said it thanks users for their patience, and through its Ask PlayStation account asked them to "please sit tight" for the time being. That account directs people to a PlayStation Forum thread for further updates, and we'll be keeping an eye on how things develop too.

Dreams it seems most companys underestimate their product and are never prepared

I'm hoping microsoft will be prepared

isn't Microsoft going to get like 3,000 new servers up on release day?

-CP Sony's network is not strong, and we already knew that.

This is probably why PSN was down for almost a month 3 years ago.

No it isn't. Go learn what you're talking about first.

GameInversion While this would be expected on both consoles. The impact will be greater on the PS4 simply because Sony is lacking in quality and quantity when it comes to their network. They don't have the finances to expand it. This is the main reason why I chose to go with the Xbox One first and maybe the PS4 later.

The problems have yet to come, just wait till you decide you want to download a game or update one. It will be just like updating or downloading one on the PS3.

this was one of my biggest selling points as well. Eventually, many games will all be digital, and playstation struggles with downloading in comparison to Xbox. YES PPL ik you can play as you download now but when everyone is downloading.. are they gonna be able to back that up?

You do realize that sony now owns gaika right? So all these games you download will be cloud based. And gaika has very massive cloud servers so downloading should be no problem. Don't call me a fanboy either just stating that this sort of thing is expected from both consoles on launch day with so many users trying to log in at the same time.

Shen Sadly this will happen to the Xbox ONE as well so I gotta get a single player game on release date.

No it won't, unlike Sony MS can keep their servers good and secure plus there are more servers on xbox
