PS4 console problems “within our expectations,” says Sony

PlayStation 4 has launched in North America and Canada, and while most of the territory is enjoying the experience, some users have reported bricked consoles. As you know, Sony has issued a statement on the matter.

As we reported yesterday IGN was handed the quote by a Sony rep. It reads, “A handful of people have reported issues with their PlayStation 4 systems. This is within our expectations for a new product introduction, and the vast majority of PS4 feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. We are closely monitoring for additional reports, but we think these are isolated incidents and are on track for a great launch.

“There have been several problems reported, which leads us to believe there isn’t a singular problem that could impact a broader percentage of systems. The number of affected systems represents less than .4% of shipped units to date, which is within our expectations for a new product introduction.”

This statement corrects reports that .04% of the consoles were affected, which we again, reported yesterday. But it’s good to keep this in mind.

We’ll have more from Sony and the launch of PS4 throughout the weekend.

lol did they really do a giveaway at tacobell,how many did they end up giving out?


Taco Bell stated there was a winner every 2 minutes, or every 5 minutes i believe.

Hope these issues get fixed soon :) i plan on purchasing a ps4.

Issues with newly released consoles is nothing new so I am not surprised. I expected both the PS4 and the Xbox One to have some issues at launch.

I just hope they get everything taken care of in a reasonable amount of time. I would hate to drop $400 or $500 on a console and have issues with it.

Its really weird. it seems like all the consoles that arent working were in the taco bell giveaway.

feel bad... this system is amazing! if any of you happen to have one Sony usually has a good customer service. My ps3 broke and they gave me a new one and even swapped the drives so i didnt lose memory.

At the end of the day each person will play whichever console they prefer. There's no need to argue over which system is "better" when in reality there is no better system, it's all about preference.

The Xbox one hasn't released yet, so how can you say it isn't top dog in the industry. Also, wasn't the 360's fail rate 50% at one point. Overall the Ps3's was under 5%.

Yeah the 360 failure rate was awful until they stopped using xenon boards, but falcons were not much better either.


The xbox 360 failrate was %33. Psn crash rate don't even get me started


this is stupid. xbox fail rate was stupidly high. psn went down like once because of a hack. .4% is a really good failure rate on a new product.


ANY failure rate is not a "good" failure rate. .4% of retail PS4s are messed up, but the numbers are counting with there 1.5 Update.
