PS4: some HDMI issues can be attributed to metal piece in port

4.5
Users experiencing issues with PS4 preventing an HDMI cord from being plugged in all the way can now fix the issue easily, according to Kotaku, which experienced the same problem.

According to the site, the HDMI port itself was the issue, not the console, due to a piece of metal not being flush with the bottom of the port.

Because the metal piece wasn’t square with the entry point, it kept the HDMI cord from being plugged in all the way. It would also damage the cord in the process.

The fix: press the piece of metal down so it’s no longer sticking up; plug the cord back in and it works.

The cause of the problem is unknown, but sounds like a manufacturing issue, and it is unknown if users other than Kotaku have experienced the same issue. But, it’s better to be safe than sorry – so check your system to make sure if you are having HDMI issues.

Sony acknowledged on launch day that there had been “several problems reported,” and nothing singular impacting a broad percentage of systems. The number of affected systems represented less than .4% of shipped units to date, said the firm, which is “within our expectations for a new product introduction.”

Sony Worldwide boss Shuhei Yoshida said at the time the issues were “isolated incidents” and last night EA suggested several gameplay issues being experienced were due to PS4 firmware update 1.50 before retracting the statement as being posted in error.

Lavish Little pieces of metal inside of a computer could short out the entire system.
I'm surprised it didn't do more than it did.

Hmm if I get you from the right end of the stick, I'm also surprised.

It's good that they have fixed this though.

Gossip PS4 is just having too many issues.

o.4% like 400 consoles that's it :/ not really that much compared to the amount that have been sold :/ but yeh they are quite a few problems as expected with every new console

.4 percent is over 20 THOUSAND consoles that were shipped bricked.
Not something can be fixed, but BRICKED.

KV-2 As I'm sitting here watching all of the flaming against opposite console users...

Nov I think it's funny how these consoles have things wrong when they release. They've been working on this for how long? Some of the stuff, are taken from the previous consoles and upgraded slightly. How are there still such stupid little problems like this? The HDMI port doesn't work? WHAT??

Not everything can be perfect. Especially these consoles.

But the HDMI ports? That's almost as basic as it gets when it comes to these consoles...

You also understands that SONY didn't assemble the console.. they had someone else do it. Therefore you can't blame Sony for some hardware issues. I can see if some issues was related to the OS but it's a problem that can easily be fixed.

Lol so you don't want people to blame sony for their own consoles issues because sony said, hey lets let some poor group of people in crappy working conditions make our console instead of us so we can cut corners and save some money? You my friend must not have or appreciate the real value of hard earned money.
From the look of it, Sony went for the cheaper, less reliable factory options, not caring that someone probably works 16 hours a day for $10...

It's their fault for getting the people they chose to assemble it.
