Sony: 'Less than one percent' of PS4s have issues

4.5
Sony addressed numerous reports of defective PlayStation 4 systems this week, and estimated that the number of damaged consoles is relatively low.

"The number of affected PS4 systems is less than one percent, which represents a very small percentage of total units shipped to date and is within the expected range for a new product introduction," a Sony representative told Engadget. "We understand the frustration of consumers that have had a problem and are working with them and our retail partners to help troubleshoot issues and ensure affected units are exchanged."

Given that several issues were reported to Sony, the hardware manufacturer believes "there isn't a singular problem that could impact a broader percentage of PS4 units." The company previously said it is investigating "isolated" PS4 issues and offered troubleshooting steps for players experiencing "blinking blue light" problems.

LaserShow At least it's not on the same level as the Xbox 360's RROD which is considered the worst hardware failure rate in history of any electronic hardwares. What was it, 30% failure?

That was absolutely stupid! RROD affected a lot of people. Glad I got a slim rather than a normal white Xbox itself.

I managed to skip out on the ROOD problems, as i purchased my Xbox 360 in 2009

It was around that if i remember correctly, glad i didn't buy an Xbox 360 when that was going on

33% in-fact. 1% is laughable as it's that low, laptops have a 22% fail rate, TV'S 8% etc...

The xboxes RROD'ed 1-3 years after being in use, you can't know if the ps4s will break afterwards.
And the 1% is a lie, I guess thats clear.
There's no way that they can get a figure this early of the launch. I can GUARANTEE the "1%" figure is made up...

I really don't believe this as i think there has been so many reports of errors and overheating i think this statistic is wrong.

Should be 0%. Still no-where near as bad as the Xbox 360

Shen I never had problems with my 360 so I expect the same from my Xbox ONE.

That sir, is about to change. Don't expect a clean break straight away, obviously there will be issues.

they say its only 1% with hardware issues. which is why basically no one can even play it? i think when they are saying this percent, it is towards a ps4 that was simply built wrong. such as the hdmi input having that metal strip sticking up. i dont think they are referring to how the ps4 wont turn on for ppl. or they cant even play it online. or they cant even download anything. that isnt a "hardware issue" its classified as some other issue. simple strategy by big corps to make a big problem seem like nothing.

and for everyone comparing this to the 360's launch problems. that was over 10 years ago. if you are comparing these two systems, then obviously you are saying that the ps4 is equal to the 360 of 10 years ago. which it must be pretty close, because long story short, they both dont work. case closed
