Lower Call of Duty: Ghosts sales 'not a sign of series fatigue'
Speaking among the pages of this month’s GameInformer, Activision’s head of publishing was asked if the Call of Duty brand was in danger of perishing under gamer fatigue.
He replied, “No,” and added, “We’ve been pretty transparent all year that we think, because of the challenges of the console transition year, that that was likely in the short-term. I think it would be a mistake to conflate the challenges of the console transition year with any indications about the health of the franchise.”
The magazine then asked Hirsberg if annualising the brand has perhaps caused diminishing returns to this pointm and it was suggested that this is a popular view among critics. He replied, “Well no, obviously not – and obviously I don’t agree with the critics there. I know that Call of Duty’s a polarising franchise with some of the critics, and it’s clear to me that not all the critics like our strategy of making a game every year, but thankfully our fans do.
“It’s also clear to me that the critical response doesn’t always mirror the fans’ appreciation of a game. We actually do read the critics’ comments and take them into consideration during our creative process, but we just can’t measure ourselves by that yardstick alone.
“Our most important audience is our fans, so we try to stay laser-focused on making games that they love. If you look at the fact that [Ghosts is] the most pre-ordered game of the year, it’s the most pre-ordered next-gen game of the year, it’s already the number one most played on Xbox Live, and that we’re seeing longer average playtimes than ever before, we’re confident that we’re doing well by the criteria that matter most.”
Is the Call of Duty brand dwindling? How much longer can it keep up this pace? Let us know below.

I love the new style of gaming. The sniping is amazing and the hit detection (for me) is spot on. The only thing I would say is to nerf the guns a little because its like 2/3 hit-markers and your dead :/ other than that everything else is fine with me. And im still playing on the xbox 360 :3

I dont understand how people actually enjoy this game. the campaign ending was incredibly stupid, and the multiplayer has no enjoyable play in comparison to cod4, waw, and mw2.

I think the series is dying down.
The game started off simple but its not getting to the point where people are demanding other stuff like Battlefeild 4.
Its a arcade shooter and people try to treat it like its real life based game.

Canidae Everyone says they need to change Call of Duty up, and when they do, which is what Ghosts did, people complain. Funny how stuff works.
By change up, please mean something completely new. IF they added tanks like WAW then that will be a new feature because it changes the way you play. I enjoy the bigger maps and it's fun to play. However it also gets boring rather quickly compared to BF4.

Fidelity Activision shouldn't be surprised. After 9 years of a repetitive series, people are bound to stop playing. Not to mention Ghosts is a horrible game all together.
The only thing I agree with what you're saying, is the fact the Ghost is a terrible game.
As for it dying because of the lifespan of it, that would work against you.
COD has only been getting more popular since its release.

I don't think that the series is failing, I think they just made a bad game and IW is refusing to fix it.

CoD need to adapt their games, and they need to adapt them quick.
The repetitiveness is becoming a joke now, CoD will always be popular but will reduce its sales by a tonne.

AuraCynicalYouTool What takes the piss is the xbox one. The number of people playing ghosts on xbox 360 when it came out was up to around 500,000 online, now its down to 140,000. MS and their greedy antics, call of duty wont be the same unless everybody has the new generation.
I agree many people aren't going to buy a 500$ console just to play ghosts on next gen. I am very sure that infinityward made a mistake by releasing it before a next gen console or perhaps the console being released weeks after Ghosts.
Too add to that I will rather play Graphic intensive games like Ryse and Xbox One Exclusives.
