Microsoft deploys new user security features

4.7
Microsoft has launched new features to enhance the security of Microsoft Accounts amidst growing concerns over internet privacy and government surveillance.

A new menu lets Microsoft Account users - including Xbox Live - to pull up a list of all recent account logins, with date and time, location, as well as the device and browser logged.

Successful and unsuccessful account logins are shown, including if an incorrect password was used. A 'This wasn't me' button will let you report any suspicious activity you see on the list.

The new features, which are much the same as a system used by Google accounts for some time now, are being rolled out "over the next couple of days".

This comes following fresh reports of US and UK spy agencies having assembled technology that collects data from Xbox Live a bid to uncover terrorist activities. In a statement to CVG today, Microsoft denied all knowledge of government surveillance.

The new Microsoft Account features aim to "give you more visibility and control of your Microsoft account," said Microsoft Account group program manager, Eric Doerr.

"We think about protecting accounts as a partnership between us and you - the more you help us (with accurate account info, and updated security info), the more we can help you keep your stuff safe," added Doerr.

"You know best what's been happening with your account - so the more we give you tools to understand what's happening, the better we can work together to protect your account. For example, a login from a new country might look suspicious to us, but you might know that you were simply on vacation or on a business trip."

Hopefully this allows people to be more secure than they were on the 360

It seems like they care alot more about security now than they did in the Xbox 360 back in the Cod 4 days!

At least Microsoft cares a bit more about their security other than Sony. I still like both consoles tho.

Whilst it is great that Microsoft continue to update their security measures, it is kind of annoying, I tend to be required to use a code sent either to my phone or alternate email so that I can log on to my primary email account (Even after selecting not to be asked for a code option). The only reason people are hacked is because they are foolish.

If you got hacked on 4 accounts you seriously need to:
A:Find a different Password
B: Reevaluate your friends/people your living with
C: STOP GIVING YOUR ACCOUNT INFO TO PEOPLE
D: How do you even get hacked on 4 accounts? There is no account hacking tool, so either your giving your info out, or someone who can access your information is. That or you used the same password for 4 accounts >.>

Wise words right here. It's very hard to get hacked on 4 accounts if you have a solid password that you don't share with anyone

Ted- This is a good idea, lets you know where a future hacker may live.

I just tried the feature, it got my city wrong, country was correct though.

Don't trust city information guys, it is hit and miss.

Country is good enough, i'm hoping that they can get the city right though (if possible)
