Xbox One hard drive becomes full at 362 GB

4.8
When Microsoft launched the Xbox One in November, it did so without a way for their owners to find out how much free space was left on their 500 GB hard drive. At the time, Microsoft said that storage management was "automatic", adding, "By being smart about how storage is managed, Xbox One keeps everyone playing, watching, and sharing their entertainment content rather than worry about limitations."

Well, as it turns out it is possible to max out the available storage on an Xbox One if you install enough games and apps on its hard drive. IGN posted up a video that shows the maximum amount of available space on the drive for users is about 362 GB or so.

That limit was reached after installing 20 of the Xbox One's 23 launch titles. In a statement sent to IGN, Microsoft said the rest of the 500 GB space is used for the OS and the first party apps that are already available on the console.

While most people won't be buying and installing all of the Xbox One's launch games, the hard drive space issue will become a problem down the road as more and more games for the console are released. Microsoft has promised that it will update the console to accept external hard drives but so far there's no word on when that will be released.

This is still going to take awhile to fill up.

That is still a lot of memory for games though

138GB is FAR to much! thats pathetic, but I guess 362GB doesnt go to fast! :D

I am somewhat surprised that 138GB is reserved on the hard drive for the Xbox One, it seems a little much. Hopefully the install sizes for most games will be like the Xbox 360 games of which they are no more than 10GB. Hopefully Microsoft will release secondary HDDs or allow the use of third party HDDs to be used with the console in the future.

Thats kind of misleading. There should be somewhere on the package telling you, you can only use 362 GB of the 500 GB that comes with it.

SurvivalOfTheFittest So now we can only use like 180GB of the memory?

We can only use 362GB of the actual hard disk space

Sempiternal Why can't they just allow third part HDDs? Surely that would end this issue.

That would be smart :) some guy did a 1tb but then it messed up :/ they should let us do those

if you read the article, they said they are going to have an update later on that will support external harddrives and USB storage

I'm hoping that they will do something like this in the near future. I would much like to be able to use my external hard drive with the Xbox One

362GB isn't much at all. Considering how much memory games take up
